yep! I haven't figured out in what capacity yet though, thats why I went with an English degree. I was originally going to major in Journalism but I didn't like the confinement it brought so I ditched it. And thanks. ^_^

Heres a question for anyone. Is there a type of pesticide that exists for old Asian ladies that root through your garbage? The single most bizarre part of my week is having to chase this lady away every Friday morning with a broom. I wouldn't even care really if she was organized about it but she rips open garbage bags and pulls everything out. Calgary just started a recycling program as well and they sent out these big blue bins to everyone. She's started overturning those as well and pulling stuff out. She turns the street into a huge dump in a matter of minutes.

As someone majoring in Political Science as well as either Urban Studies or Peace and Conflict Studies, I'd like to say congratulations and well I've heard people say this stuff is a waste of time, a degree is a degree.

lmao

You should look at reactions when I tell people I'm in Cinema and Communications. They give the "ah, so you're going to be a bum" look.

You must hear it a lot, Poli Sci seems to take a ton of crap.

I never got degree elitists. Like you said, a degree is a degree

Just give 'em a punch to the throat. Thats about all anyone who looks down on another persons degree deserves anyway. ^_^

Yeah, and just as bad are people who use degrees to make themselves seem superior. I have a friend who often brags about being an engineer, a well-respected degree that requires a lot of intelligence to get. The thing he doesn't tell people, is that his engineering degree was one that didn't require any sort of calculus, i.e. not true engineering. His degree is obviously nothing to laugh at, just bugs me how he brags about it.

We have degrees like that in Calgary.

If you get your engineering degree at SAIT, you're technically not even allowed to call yourself an engineer. The University of Calgary is the legit degree and they end up with a bit of a rivalry in the workplace. The SAIT guys end up pissing off the U of C guys because they try to make it seem like their knowledge is on the same level, which it isn't. So the U of C guys end up ridiculing the SAIT guys.

I have a friend who went through SAIT's engineering program and my brother-in-law graduated at the top of the U of C's program so I hear all about this engineering rivalry. It's quite amusing to me.

Oh yeah, all the time. It doesn't really matter to me though, because like someone said, one degree or another does not determine someone's intelligence. Maybe I went into poli sci rather than the sciences because I enjoy the social sciences more. People are just a tad pathetic in the fact that a lot of them have nothing else to cling to.

I can say with certainty that I will be more successful than these science kids because I'm more intelligent than them and am stronger in my field than they are in their's.

Besides, I go to the University Of Toronto. :P

Most people who defend getting a near-useless degree either have a near-useless degree themselves or are your mother (or both).

If you have the money to survive getting a degree that for the most part won't net you a job on it's own, then by all means do what makes you happy.

Seriously, one week only put stacks and stacks of asian pornography in your garbage. Clean out every convenience store or adult movie place in the area. Hell, special order some stuff or borrow Fanpuck's extensive (and freaky) collection. Go as risque as possible too, get the stuff that makes you feel like showering or seeing a therapist.

When she opens up those garbage bags, she'll either be really offended and never show up again, or if she's as crazy as she seems, she may show up at your door butt nekkid and looking for action.

Then you can call the cops and nail her for indecent exposure. Or you can just nail her... all that asian porno may have had an affect on you.

/foolproof plan

OK, I thought about creating a whole new thread for this but I figured taht would be overkill, so I'm posting this in here instead.

I seem to recall there used to be a "HabsWorld on Facebook" thread but I can't find it, so I'm gonna have to ask here instead.

The other day someone added me on Facebook, someone who was born in 1958 and who lives somewhere in PA and who's a fan of John Coltrane (yay!) and, as far as I can tell, the Phillies (meh). I don't want to post the person's name. I don't know who that person is, and if that person posts here, would you be kind enough to let me know that you are you, if you get what I mean. Someone on a different message board where I (regretfully) post occasionally has decided to start bringing me into the biggest meltdown since Chernobyl, that person created an account with my real name on that board and started posting racist sh*t and stuff. So I'm trying to straighten out all the question marks. You can PM me, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.
