There's nothing stopping them from sending Barron down and recalling Lindstrom to be the designated scratch after they submit the opening rosters.  It's more advantageous for them to have Barron on it than Lindstrom (bonus cushion).

Yeah I forget that these moves are about compliance and may have nothing to do with the actual roster.

What you propose sounds reasonable.

Nothing announced yet but Armia is on Montreal's opening roster (which has 23 players on it), Xhekaj isn't.  Xhekaj wasn't on the season-opening one last year either and was recalled the next day.  Presumably, that's for LTIR optimization purposes.

With that move, the Habs are $4,339,583 above the cap.  Dvorak's cap hit is $4.4 million so it appears they've gone with the strategy of him starting on offseason LTIR.

Does anyone ( @dlbalr @Commandant ???) know whether the 5:00 pm Monday roster has to be the opening night roster or can they make changes in between?

Its regular roster rules now so if they wanted to wait til Wednesday they could even make the callup same day.  (Though due to travel a tuesday callup and travel with the team just makes more logistical sense).

They do have to hold this roster for 24 hours I believe. After 5pm Tuesday they can adjust line up.

Bah! Link still borked for me but the idea of the tweet is that the Habs will have 10.5 million in cap space after they LTIR Price.

Hopefully we can take on cap for picks at some point

Since Price is apparently starting on the regular IR, putting him on LTIR will save cap space but the roster will still be full at 23 men ... so anybody they add will require a player to be waived/demoted/traded.

They'd be able to add money on deadline day itself when the roster maximum is lifted.

That said, for me, the ideal scenario is still getting out of LTIR altogether to reduce/eliminate the bonus overage.  If they intend to try to add an impact piece next summer, getting rid of that overage penalty would help...or at least offset an Armia buyout if they go that way.
