Lovett's Magnatones
he is the king of "Lack of weapons the habs have" NO 1 CENTERMAN ....lol So is it Plekanec's fault the Habs don't have a true number one center?! Here are some other issues that are Plek's fault: 1. World hunger 2. Poverty 3. Dogs biting children 4. PJ Stock
Lovett's Magnatones
I think it's fair to say that everyone would like an upgrade at center. Whether that is Chucky to become the player we all hope he will be, or to package together some lesser talent to acquire a star center. Is it likely that Chucky can do that next year? There is a chance but I'm not holding my breath on it just yet. Is there some centers across the league that could be had? The Sharks might want to shake things up with Thornton and Marleau, maybe an Eric Staal, O'Reilly, Malkin, or future star Bjugstad could be had. Time for me to find the trade proposal thread hahaThe Panthers wouldn't trade Bjugstad for Plekanec, Gallagher and a pick. He's got the potential to be a 70 pt center if he has the right personell.Markov for Trochek and a prospect isn't unrealistic. The Panthers only have two, maybe three good years out of Luongo, so they need to be aggressive.

Poverty 3. Dogs biting children 4. PJ Stock Where is the heck did you get that idea? Habs wont seriously contend if Plekanic is their best center................ get it? It aint his fault.............and who cares who's "fault" it is. Bad drafting from 99-010 maybe? But again who cares "fault" Just a fact jack. MB knows it, heck the entire hockey world knows it. Said it loud and clear in October "HABS ARE TOO WEAK DOWN THE MIDDLE TO BEAT THE HEAVY WEIGHTS". ........ then I was steam rolled with hundreds of posts from wishful thinking hab fans that i was in correct. But several agreed, those who dont mind admitting what we have and what we don't have. "fault" Please.

ICEWATER77
It's not as if TP and DD struggled because 30 said so, what's with the personel attacks? Fact is, we need help down the middle to make the next step. DD is too small, and TP is no set-up man. So let's hear YOUR proposal on what MB should/shouldn't do? JCPetit
Yup AK46 and AK27 really had poor production as his wingmen. The same comment from an NHL team executive (not named of course) this morning in La Presse: Plekanec is good, but he is a 3rd line center. No better than that. Habs30/31
Its a tall order for MB. Getting the team to another level. Cannot over state the need for a prime time center man. 1. Moving chucky there is one hope. It may take awhile. All I hear is that they are going to be patient with the young third over all pick. Patience at wing, but zero patience at center?? It will still take a full season plus to even see chucky has what it takes to be the no one center of the future. 2. Eller playing second line center , but the key is with decent wingers. Not play musical chairs with Prust, DLR, Weiss, Pelly. Let him play with Gally and the winger that we are gonna sign or trade Pleks for. Those are two options with what we have in the room now. 3. What MB can bring in this summer. btw..... Did you here Chucky at the end of season player interviews? "Put me at center, I need to be center to be the best i can be" Big surprise. MB giving post season press conference in a couple of hours. MT not doing one at all.
JCPetit
The Plekanec fans can't accept the reality: their man was not in the good chair on the 1st line. If we had a real contender, he would do very good centering the 3rd line. Having Plekanec or DD centering our best two lines is a demonstration of the real quality of the team, which is probably very close to average if you place another goalie than Price in the net. Price is the reason why we had an excellent regular season. He deserves the Hart Trophy hand over fist. And he will get it. The choice is easy.
Jeff Price (no relation)
There were only 24 centers in the entire NHL last year better than Plekanec, by offensive production. Pittsburgh had 2 of them. There are 30 teams in the NHL, requiring 4 centers each. That's 120 centers. Calling Plekanec a "third line center" is, quite frankly, idiotic. That would mean that there are only 24 first or second line centers in the entire league, and that 96 of the centers in the league - that's 75% of them - are 3rd or 4th liners. And no, don't tell me other players would have had more points in Plekanec's spot... he was disadvantaged. He did NOT play with Pacioretty on his wing for most of the year. He played on a team with one of the lowest goals scored in the NHL. Put him on Tampa's second line, and he gets 10-20 MORE points than he had in Montreal. (This is completely ignoring defensive ability, where Plekanec, arguably, is in the top 10.) I'm in the "Trade Plekanec" camp, but it's not because he's a third line center. It's because he's a bona-fide first line center and we should get value for him before he's a free agent and age catches up to him soon afterward. Note the same argument about DD applies...he was 40th in offensive production among 120 centers. That's the top third of the league. He's actually significantly above average for a 2nd line center. The difference is he did have the advantage of feeding MaxPac most of the year. I would argue that one of our main problems is a lack of effective wingers beyond MaxPac and Gallagher. Galchenyuk is getting there (20g and 26a is coming up. If he can pad that more and take his place on a center spot, we're in much better shape.) We are a team build to roll 3.5 lines. We should have, therefore, at least 6 wingers putting up decent numbers. We have 2. No offense to Dale Weise, but if his 29 points is your third-best scoring winger, you have an offensive problem. (Note: I am NOT suggesting getting rid of Weise. Best 3rd line wing in the NHL!) What Plekanec is NOT, is a STAR first line centre. I'd love a star center, but there are only 7 or 8 of them in the NHL. People don't part with them. So it's time to get rid of non-producing people clogging up our roster and replace them with those who produce. Eller, Parenteau, Prust, and Emelin are my first choices to go. Plekanec can be traded to make room and get some return on him while he's still worth something. Use those five to get a couple legitimate scoring/playmaking threats at forward (I don't care which forward position, as long as they're different. from each other.)
Lovett's Magnatones
btw..... Did you here Chucky at the end of season player interviews? "Put me at center, I need to be center to be the best i can be" Big surprise. That's not even close to what he said. I can't remember the exact quote, but it was something to the effect of "if I'm put at center, I'll play center. If I play wing, I'll play wing." If he said that it would be on the front page of every MTL paper and Habs site. Did you mean to put the quotes there, or are you just making things up now? FYI-Bergevin just confirmed that Galchenyuk played wing in Sarnia for a period and the subtext is that he doesn't have what it takes. He's also making this Playstation NHL trade joke over and over. N Pas Excuses, Monsieur Bergevin! Chucky is no center. Face reality.

Call me crazy, but I gotta question his integrity...maybe he just doesn't "have it" right here ---> <3 Based purely on the text, it comes off as fairly morose. He is sick of being asked about playing C; that's the main message there. 'I'll play where I'm asked to play,' is the secondary message. Nothing in that quotation comes at all close to implying he'd prefer to play one position or the other. We're just shooting in the dark. The grounds for questioning his heart should rest on his play rather than his interview responses. In any case, he's had 2 1/2 years of regular NHL duty: too soon to raise really serious questions about his character, but long enough to legitimately start to wonder whether he will ever amount to anything other than a so-so secondary scorer in the NHL. johnnyhasbeen
Pacs Plexs Parenteau Chucky Eller Gally Delarose DD DSP Bournival Prust Weisse That is how we look as of today. Plus any AHL guys that fall into the have to clear waivers bracket. Thomas? We do need a 4th line center. Looking down the list of guys that fit that bill I am liking Richards, Mitchell or Soderburg. I like the top 3 lines. Triple P, EGG and 3D.

Swap DD and Eller - DD is a 50 point per year guy who's responsible defensively, Eller's a 25 point per year guy who's lousy defensively (I'd like him gone.) Drop Parenteau and move Weise, DSP and Gally up one spot. I'm not convinced on Bournival, Prust or de la Rose, but we have to give DLR time to prove himself anyway. Habs30/31
That's it...find a One-Timer specialist! Sweet jesus why didn't anyone think of that long ago? But, I highly doubt Tomas Plekanec will be traded, however bad he is at one-timers, for $5m/yr you cant beat his 2 way game. Eller has said he wants to be more involved in offensive situations, maybe he will be more of PP and Plekanec less, who knows may be better? (PP couldnt get any worse) "powerplay could not get any worse" heard that said 100 times all season long.......then in the play offs........it got worse. Think like a GM in an arbitration hearing and you might understand why he'd say it. "Galchenyuk looks to be developing into a 20 goal winger at best despite being a third overall selection. We just gave a six year contract to a more consistent 20 goal scorer for $3.75M. We will not entertain paying him much more."
