  1. Martin has handled PK well to this point, but it is up to his teammates to help him along. I assume that is what is happening in practice...Not sure who is roomate is, but they should bunk him with J. Gorges...He'd learn some stuff through osmosis...
  2. I like pleks, but this signing has really drained the bank...long term cost w/no trade clause...wondering if they made a move for Horton and needed to land Pleks afterwards...He had a very good last year....he battled....but we're real small up front and the blue line has some holes... all said, not sure there was another move...Hopefully Lars, Pacs and/or Trotts can contribute next year too!
  3. Halak had to go..good sale when value highest...Habs got no cash (Gionta, Gomes, Cammi) ...seems like a decent return with low salary implications...there are tons of good goalies looking for work...we'll be fine in the pipes....If Price sucks, he only has himself to blame... Need to get scoring and another defenseman...
  4. I think the Habs gambled last season hoping plex wouldn't rebound, spent a ton of cash (rightly/wrongly?) on Gionta, Gomez and Cammi and now they will not be able to compete for Plex... That said, they still have some assets to deal for a solid first/second line center (pick(s) and/or young player (pacs, white) + Halak or Price) they need size up the middle and should make that happen...
  5. Buy out Hammer Try to resign Pleks, but don't go crazy Trade halak for top 4 D prospect (if needed throw in Pleks for top D) Pick up waiver goalie Move PK up Get Marleau or Kessler fill holes with youth (deshardans, pacs and trotts) during season Get Pouliot a brain, Tell Max every game is playoff game, keep markov healthy, get O'Byrne to Oz for heart and brain, Move spacek to home spot and pray, and remind Carey that he needs to deliver...
  6. If Gill beats O'Byrne on the depth chart than Martin NUTS!
  7. This kid is confident and doesn't look out of place at all....you can just see he belongs...loved it when Pronger tried to run him (PK saw it, ducked and Pronger almost got broken on the boards)...man was he pissed! Development? Excellerated UFA status? R u kidding me!? PK makes it happen 5 on 5 and on PP.... have you guys been watching our D this season???? Hammer, Gill, Spacek, Bergeron...UGH! After Gorges and Markov we're hurting on consytancty LOVING PK!!
  8. The numbers don't work....this has got to is be the lead in for a trade....Pleks is going...Reality is that he up for a huge raise that the Habs can't afford...Habs have too many long term dogs...and, there are gaping holes on D -- Gill, Spacek, Bergeron, Obeirn ????? Pleks will get dealt for a top 5 d-man (whose got at least another year under contract)...
  9. I like him and he's got lots of upside...If anyone has earned a cross it is Gill... Hamrlik is too old. Gill can't skate and isn't tough on boards. Bergeron only good on PP and can't play D Spacek has yet to stand out and seems to brain fart too often Ryan's improving Georges nice. Markov rocks.
  10. Not much of an option on this one...Love Lats, but he has been struggggggling....change of scenery will do him well....I like the speed potential...I think Martin, Gionta and Cammalari will keep him motivated...see memo just released from BG to team.... To: Les Boyz From: BG Re: 2009-10 Season Play hard, no one is safe.
  11. Pleks is a solid second line centre, but he won't last past the deadline regardless of how he performs...I expect he'll get packaged up with some others and Bob will make another run at a top centre and move Gomez down to second line....
  12. Great move by Bob. A little expensive in the real world though...Bob will unload Pleks before the deadline regardless of where the team stands...I actually expect Bob to make yet another play for a big centerman for the playoff push and that effort will involve Pleks... Lets face it, if Pleks rebounds, he'll get too expensive and if he doesn't rebound, he'll still be too expensive...
  13. I dont disagree at all in terms of the limited risk on ability of the players versus the players lost...clearly more upside in terms of age and ability, if not size...BUT, the point I was trying to make is that the size and scope of this top to bottom restructing leaves Bob and J. Martin extremely vulnerable early on IF the team and/or too many of these new players (1) don't perfom and/or (2) lose the fan base.... It will be a long couple years because the Habs will be unable to unload these salaries and the "farm team" does not have the depth it once had.... IMO it has the potential to get really ugly by Christmas and the restructuring may include Gainey if this experiment fails...
  14. In his day, Bob wore the C and when the coach called he answered the call with inspirational effort that spread down the bench. He was able to inspire his teamates and the club prevailed generally. Two seasons in a row Bob puts it on the shoulders of the players and stands pat at the deadline. Unfortunately, the team ran into a brick wall for many reasons, including bad chemistry and questionable effort from too many...it costs the Habs dearly in lost value in the off season. Bob is obviously trying to learn from those mistakes by retooling almost the entire team. Positives: By signing Gionta, Gomez and Camallari, he shows the city and other UFA that he is serious about restructuring the team to get a winner. If these players succeed, but the team struggles, he has some trade bait later on this season or in the off-season and cap space for a first line centre... Negatives: holy risk batman! If these guys fail Bob will get run out of town and the team will be destined to struggle for many, many years. Not sure if this is gonna work out. I have my doubts. But, it takes major balls to change directions so quickly and completely in Montreal...that I love!
  15. Gainey has done a solid job at GM. Certainly, the team is not living up to wishes or expectations this season. But, the team is competitive and has some talent coming up through the farm system. Two things, by the way, that you could not say before Bob came to Montreal. Not to make excuses, but there are lots of distractions to point to....too much hype over the centenial season...too much hype over Price....too much hype on the over-achievements from 07-08....losing Streit hurt...losing Lang hurt....losing Tanguay hurt...losing Komisarek hurt... IMO this year's under-achieving team is on Carbo...the glaring holes in his coaching skills were evident all the way back last year when he couldn't salvage M. Ryder...Ryder was a project Julien and the Canadiens took on and who was nurtured by the organization and Julien into a solid NHLer....Carbo blew his confidence and now he's having a career year in Boston...I'm just hoping it's not too late for Gainey to turn around the other young players having sub-par, low confidence seasons this year (Komi, Higgins, Pleks, etc.) The only thing that you can really lay on Bob as GM is his inability to land a big, quality centre this past offseason...Lang was good, but he's on the downside of his career....The Habs need to make a move to trade for a proven centre... Of course, after this crazy season, the Habs may be forced to reenter rebuilding mode IF they are unable to attract quality free agents and/or sign some of their own UFAs...
  16. Sorry. I love Carbo, but I haven't been impressed with him behind the bench at all. Not sorry to see him go. Smart move by Gainey. They have been imploding since the break. This gives Gainey the opportunity to evaluate all of the players and to see if they respond by making the playoffs and winning some games in the post-season. If they are unable to turn this around quickly, win some games, get in the playoffs and win some post-season games, I expect few of the UFAs will be back.... Good to see Dandy get an opportunity to contribute....
  17. Wow, that's harsh. But certainly you raise some points. BG didn't have much choice today. Right now, no GM wants anyone in the current lineup other than Komi, Pacriotti or maybe Plecs... That being said, the habs have speed and talent -- just no size up the middle. So, I think BG was right calling them out and, at this point, crossing his fingers to see if this rag-tag crew can get some chemistry and pull it together for a run...
  18. Higgins always seems to pop up in the rumor mill. He really hasn't been the same since the ankle injury. But, this guy is definitely a quality second liner and great in the locker room and on the penalty kill....He's gritty, speedy and always works hard at both ends... I like he in the CH, but Bob does have some room to upgrade as I'll bet ever GM likes Higgins for all reasons stated... above... This decision could be an opportunity for Bob to work some magic....or to make a big misstep... Please not Jok-I-nen!
  19. Please Bob don't bring Jokinen to Montreal...the habs are not contenders if we continue to give up 40+ shots a game... Give up some players and go get Boumeister (if they can sign him)...I love Higgins, but he has not had the same offensive since the ankle injury last year...Chips is totally expendible and throw in a pick... Boumeister is a franchise player whose young and healthy...with all of the UFAs we've got we can sign him long term and build an insane defense with solid goaltending...that's what wins cups!
  20. I like Begin, but Metro is a more versitile player with more upside come playoff time....But, I don't think we'll see the kind of game Metro put up last night against his Philly every night... Gainey should be more concerned with the defense at this stage...While the offense is struggling, the habs get Tangay back soon and that should help... Hammer and Komi turned it over in the neutral zone multiple times last night... Breezer gave one up on the PP and almost gave up another after getting completely undressed...Schneider is a nice addition on PP, but too SMALL! If he can nail down a long-term contract, Bob should go get Boumeister [almost] at any cost!
  21. Kovy is not gonna attract alot of interest from other teams. Aside from the fact that he is an UFA, a head case and a constant distraction to the team on and off the ice, he has really lost a step over the past couple years. Most of his points last year were generated off on the PP. I think he is having trouble adjusting his game to the speed of the game.
  22. This is a great move! Absent a trade, Gainey is forcing Kovy, a proud player, to pull it together or sit the rest of the season and face a tough FA market at the end of the year.
  23. Good move...habs need spark and Kosty needs opportunity...just about the best move made to date by either Julien or Gainey... Consistency is needed. Set the lines. Let them play for 5 games and see what happens...too much juggling...We'll be much better with Souray in the lineup and when we get Koivu, Kovy and K-Rex back in the lineup.. til then...hold on....
  24. Who would have thunk it? Rivet playing well...Markov and Boullion playing exceptionally well....while Souray and Komi struggle a bit...As far as Steit...we've got to stay with him for the time being...Maximize the opportunity by rooming him with Boullion and playing him with Markov...He's got ability, but, like many other defensemen in the league is having difficulty adjusting... Hopefully by immersing him with these overachievers (Markov and Boullion) he'll find the heart, courage and brain at the end of the yellow brick road..
  25. Hainsey had to clear waivers when he was demoted. Any team could have claimed him at that point. He'll have to clear waivers yet again if he gets called up...Streit is looking pretty good, especially on the pp...so, barring and injury, I don't see that happening... Best guess. Package deal...it's gotta be a forward (maybe w/Hainsey) for Niinima if at all...and, no, not Dags ...too slow...too big a liability in the new NHL...maybe Ribs?
