Guest Stogey24
Great game. Subban still hasn't completely found his game, but it'll come. Sekac!!! Lucic shows the mongrel he is.
habscout
I see Lucic is his usual no class self. When Emelin gets under his skin like he did early in the game with that solid check, the guy is thrown off his game It wasn't the prettiest game overall but the Habs got their home opener win against their most hated rival and managed a PP goal (finally!) Lovett's Magnatones
Remember when Lucic was intimidating? Now he's just a punk. The Bruins used to be bad-now they're just bad. They look like they're in tough to finish third in the Atlantic.
Machine of Loving Grace
Hope we allow less goals next game but happy with the result.
habs rule
Emelin played his best game as a Hab IMHO. Nailing Lucic early Absolutely fantastic. Who will kill who?. Lucic will not intimidate the habs this year. I have great hope for this team , other than that the defence needs to tighten up and we can challenge for the cup. Where is the parade this year? OH and I do mean MONTREAL
KoRP
Boston loses...Lucic crying.... Good game. Stogey calls him a mongrel! LoL! Guess Emelin didn't get the memo of who was to be killed? Diving call on Subban was B S I would like to know when the league is going to actually suspend a Bruin for these nut spears? Ri-dick-ulous... Habs had the edge in the physical play tonight, Moen had his best game so far, whole 4th line was awesome! Price wasn't Price yet this season, tonight there were just too many chances in the slot, D giving up too many ultra quality chance every game, but that will all work itself out, it's great to be scoring goals.... We now officially are deep inside the Bruins heads, and it may very well be a long season for Boston, the giveaways in the 3rd.... oh my .... ICEWATER77
geez, coming into the season they were calling for price and subban to carry the team..still waiting for them to show up. they're not terrible by any means, but they're not PRICE and SUBBAN yet..can you imagine when they work out their kinks? whoa, then we'll truly get an idea how great we can be! i'm not completely convinced yet, however. i'll give em another few weeks before I go planning the route

ICEWATER77
agreed..mt seems to pull the right strings too. still, 4-1 is a nice little surprise..considering we haven't played a quality 60 minutes yet
JoeLassister
Something I'm curious about is whether or not Therrien will match Malhotra against Bergeron with some regularity in the next two periods. So far he hasn't as they've faced off just once. Having a specialist like Malhotra should in theory help negate some of Bergeron's faceoff prowess. It also has the effect to lower an advantage Malhotra would have on another opposing centre. Flipping a coin vs Bergeron vs losing Bergeron's and winning Malhotra's... But I do reckon that Bergeron sees more ice than Malhotra, so probably better flip a coin most of the time yeah.

Machine of Loving Grace
I can't think of a softy Price has allowed, especially last night. He isn't shutting the door like we'd hope but he made a ton of huge saves. A lot of the goals come from defensive breakdowns.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
If memory serves, the second goal against Philly was weak. People aren't thinking clearly about Price. When Zoot Suit let Gorges walk, a number of us suggested that that could ramify for the team's defensive play - and that that would make Price's job harder. Gorges was, after all, our paradigmatic defensive defenceman and shot-blocker par excellence. (Not that he was awesome, just that he had that important role and filled it well). His replacements were supposed to be Gilbert and Weaver - the former an upgrade in moving the puck up ice, but erratic in his own end, and the latter supposedly (but not actually) comparable in terms of blocking shots. The D has not looked as good in its own end as when Gorges was here, and I think his absence is a part of that. The Gorges deal may have been sensible as a salary dump. But people - dazzled as always by their obsession over bloated contracts - forgot, or never realized, that Gorges was a pretty valuable cog in our defensive mix. Now, hopefully this isn't a symptom of a structural problem. It may just be a period of adjustment. But blaming Price is, to some degree, confusing symptom and disease.
Machine of Loving Grace
I don't know if it's so much the loss of Gorges as much as Subban always taking a bit of time to get going. Markov is doing the heavy bulk of shutdown defence with the Emelin/Subban pairing just not at 100% efficiency yet. I'm not a big fan of Gilbert but he's pretty great at stealing pucks. He's a non stop "get the puck out of the zone" machine. I'll take that over Gorges laying around to block shots all game. Scoring is up right now around the league actually. I don't know how long it'll last but you have to go back to Friday to find a game where a team didn't score six goals and back to October 8th for a team not scoring five goals in a game. There's a lot of blowouts and high scores right now. Much like the PP issues, we're not an isolated incident.
Guest Stogey24
I knew nothing about Gilbert before he got to Montreal, but I honestly thought he was better at handling the puck....
Machine of Loving Grace
Lucic fined $5,000 and the guy with the laser pointer was thrown out of the game. He might be banned from the Bell Centre and charged.

But blaming Price is, to some degree, confusing symptom and disease. actually, gorge's replacement i would think is emelin and tinordi/beaulieau on the left side and not weaver and gilbert who play on the right. And although gorges is sitting 2nd in the league currently in blocked shots, i believe we have 4 guys in the top 20 in blocked shots (PK, gilbert, weaver and beaulieau) so that part of the game is covered. i think your definitely over valuing gorges as defender, in fact our best stretch of hockey last season in the reg season came when he was out for a significant amount of time. no dis-respect to josh. I'm just saying if we break down all the goals scored last night by boston for example.... would gorges have made a difference. not one bit! ICEWATER77
I too believe we're better off without gorges. however, do I think we're a serious Stanley cup contender? not quite. we're one badassed right handed defensive defenseman away yet. a 2nd pairing minute eater.and believe me, that isn't josh gorges! brobin
Price has let a few terrible rebounds out and was so scrambly he wasn't able to make a second save. This is not Price at the top of his game.when on his game he eats the first shot, stays in control, and makes it look simple. And yes, our D has not helped. Machine of Loving Grace
Hearts is correct. Gorges currently has 19 blocked shots. Subban is third with 14, Gilbert tied for 7th with 12, Beaulieu tied for 13th with 11, Emelin at 49th with 7.
