... This organization has gotten itself into trouble by rushing youngsters.  For once, it'd be great to let the prospects actually have proper development time at lower levels rather than being thrown to the fire too early.

Too many fans lack the patience needed for young players to properly develop.

Interestingly, everyone saying we messed up  Kotkaniemi's development by rushing him into the league... yet here he is at 23 yrs old and 10 pts in 10 games (4G 6A) playing 2C on a juggernaut...

Can he keep it up?

LaPierre had an interesting take on allowing NHL calibre players the time to learn the game in the NHL and not in a lesser league. He used stars like Jack Hughes 3 seasons to get going and McKinnon 4 seasons to reach his potential as well as kotkaniemi.

He believes most players agree, that if a player is NHL calibre he will get it in time as he learns the NHL game.  Feels Habs are bang on in there usage of Slav as he learns to play in the NHL

The unknown is whether ONE more year in Europe (maybe conditional on the team trading him to a better team as Assat Pori was not very good that season ... 9 points out of their wild card despite playing 4 more games than the last qualifier) or a season in the AHL would have accelerated that growth.

And, is tied for 10th place a "juggernaut"?

Just one additional data point: in the preceding 10 regular-season games he scored two points (0g+2a), at the end of the previous season.

Maybe we are in a different era - an era in which kids are brought up early. I suppose if you have coaches that are prepared to give them minutes and ride out their learning curve - which, historically, is not something old-school, risk-averse coaches were willing to do - they could learn in the NHL.

Given that it still takes 3-4 years for them to blossom, I don’t really see the advantage; but who knows.

Regarding KK, I truly hope he wallows in mediocrity and that the current hot spell is a blip. He has had such spells before, if memory serves. I live in hope.

Again that was Maxim Lapierre's take as I was paraphrasing

Keep in mind that Lapierre backed up his points of saying elite players don’t need to play in the minors, and giving examples of Hedman and Stamkos from Tampa, and I think Hughes from NJ as examples of elite players  who didn’t play in the minors and learned in the NHL.

of course he ignored that Point (combo of two post-draft years in juniors and AHL, Kucherov (extra year in junior + AHL), Sergechev (extra year in junior). Of course he ignored examples of guys like Kirill Kaprizov whose a number of years in Russia after being drafted.

he also ignored a lot of other players that were rushed before they were ready.

If KK is doing better now, it’s not because he was always ready, it’s probably because for a much better coach, better players and has had a number of years to get better and doesn’t look like Bambi on ice  anymore. We also don’t know if this is a short term blip or he’s finally putting it together.
