  2. As far as i'm concerned, Schlemko replaced Beaulieu for less and brings a similar game. Alzner replaced Emelin for similar dollars and a similar game but more effective. Now its either Markov, or whoever is going to replace him, I keep seeing the mindset that Alzner is coming to replace Markov but he is not, He is replacing Emelin. We lost Emelin for nothing and we gained Alzner for nothing. Safe to say I'd rather have Alzner playing where Emelin was supposed to slot in all day any day. Its easy to turn this signing negative by twisting it around as Alzner replacles Markov but that is insanity, they are completely different players. I doubt very seriously that MB thinks Alzner will slot in everywhere Markov did, on the top Pair, on the PP, and not play any PK. Look at it that way and ask yourself if it is even possible other than blinding yourself to biased levels of hate for MB, that he could possibly think that. Alzner is coming in to be a physical stay at home presence who can log huge minutes on the PK and eat minutes against top players when paired with a puck mover. Does that sound ANYTHING like what Markov would be asked to do if he was still here? or does it sound like what Emelin would be asked to do if he was still here? Come on guys..

  3. i'd be willing to do 6 mill at 5 if it was literally down to that choice. If Radulov said his final counter offer was 6 mill for 5 years or I go to Dallas, i'd throw in the extra year and nothing more to make it happen.

  4. But really, for really real. I can't not look for trade possibilities and come back to a Pacioretty package for Tavares. I'm haunted. If we have Tavares & Price signed tomorrow to 8 year 9 million deals. I'll find God.

  5. It's going to be a busy day today. Let's keep tabs on all the goings-on league wide here. Anything pertaining to the Habs can go in its own thread.

  6. He also fell in the lineup in usage, almost to the point of being a #7 for Washington in the playoffs. His groin issues might not be fully healed.

  7. In all seriousness (and actually relevant to the topic), Holland is probably a top liner with Laval to start the season. Between him and Froese, they're actually trying to add pieces that will make the Rocket competitive. Nice to see.

  9. I guess going somewhere that has a good chance to win was important to him. I hope MTL could use this to their advantage more.

  10. This is a decent upgrade on Emelin. $500k more for a helluva lot less turnovers and brain farts. We'll miss the hits, but as The Cucumber stated, he could stabilize the 2nd pairing quite well. Petry can take some more liberties offensively now.

  11. I expect nothing, so I wont be disappointed, but might be surprised. I really just want this team to go back to being exciting to watch, I hate the way the team played last season.

  12. I think Alzner is a legit upgrade on Emelin, though. And that - not Markov - is who he is really replacing.

  17. I'd take a flyer on him. Played on a bad/injured Florida team. A rebuilding roughshot Buffalo squad. He had some back injuries last year. If he's taking less than what Emelin made last year it's worth a gamble.

  19. A disappointing, yet unsurprising outcome. Lefebvre hasn't had the horses to work with and is far from the only guilty party when it comes to the lack of success the teams have had under his tenure. Bergevin has refused to supply him with the level of supplemental talent required to have successful AHL teams and did so supposedly in the name of development. My frustration with Lefebvre over the years has been what he has chosen to do with that mantra which is basically put the journeyman plugs they sign to fill out the roster ahead of the actual prospects on the depth chart. Zack Stortini routinely played ahead of Louis Leblanc and saw PP time ahead of him. While Leblanc probably wouldn't have made it anyway, that still makes no sense if you're trying to develop players. Even some of the good veterans that were added were miscast - the diminutive Martin St. Pierre, a top scorer at that level, got deployed as a checker for a good chunk of his one season under Lefebvre. At 30 years old and a whopping 5'9, this is not how to use your veteran talent. (There's plenty more of these but I'll digress.) For a more recent example of curious development, consider Markus Eisenschmid. While on an AHL deal, he was playing ahead of prospects like Jeremy Gregoire which again goes against the idea of letting the prospects play. Eisenschmid signed an entry-level contract back in January and was immediately bumped down the depth chart to the point where he started to become a regular scratch. But hey, the no-good career minor league goon in David Broll still had a spot in the lineup for most of the year (and a contract extension to boot). I was hoping they'd use the move as a chance to start fresh behind the bench. Failing that, here's hoping for a bit of a change from Bergevin's philosophy and that he'll start to supply them with better supplemental depth. Somehow I'm not holding my breath there. Unfortunately Carriere will lack a bit of objectivity when it comes to Lefebvre. His son, Nick Carriere, was hired to be an assistant coach a couple of years ago despite having a losing record over a decade of coaching at a low-level Division III college. Any 'failure' attributed to Lefebvre will inherently be attributed to his son as well and he probably wouldn't want that.

  21. Best post I've read here in a long time! In a sea of negativity and chicken little thinking practised here, this is a shining example of level headed reasoning and unbiased logic. What a better forum this would be with this type of attitude instead of the whining bitch fests that are found all too often here. You get a +1 from me.

  22. Supposedly Habs have given Radulov and Markov final offers. Would be sweet to see both back next season.

  23. So he finally woke up after 5 years on the job and realized that he should have veterans to teach the kids?????? Really?????
