  1. That's always the way, isn't it? Folks on here (including me) have talked about trading Gallagher this season; but any previous year, when Gally was going like gangbusters, that would have been a rare proposal indeed. When guys like Jeff Carter and Phil Kessel were on the block, during the low ebbs of their careers, many fans were adamant that the Habs had to STAY AWAY from these head-cases, 'problem players,' bums, etc.. But either of those guys would have been great additions. This is supposed to be why the GMs make the big bucks - to see through the exigencies of the moment and identify a player's real value as an asset. Not that they are terribly great at that either.

  3. Why do we always have the wrong brother??? The wrong Hossa, the wrong bure, and now the wrong Benn!!! Don't we have enough bottom fillers already???

  4. Thread title should have been "Habs Add Scoring, Trade for Jordie Benn." After all, two goals in 58 games is an upgrade on the third lines. I wonder how much time these tiny deals take Bergevin?

  5. Pierre Dorion is the first GM to lose a trade to Jim Benning.

  6. WHAT!? HOW DID JIM BENNING FLEECE ANOTHER GM!? HOW IS PIERRE DORION THIS DUMB?

  7. Burrows trade comes with an extension, 2 years, $2.5 million per year. Yeah, still don't know what Ottawa is thinking.

  8. I have no idea what Ottawa is thinking on this one. Dahlen is 19 and a former second rounder. For Burrows? A UFA with 9 goals? I can't believe VANCOUVER fleeced somebody.

  9. Should have just titled the thread "Habs trade for Benn" and basked in the hatred spewed your way.

  11. Not so much Mickey Mouse. More along the lines of constantly resuscitating a body that was declared dead about 20 years ago.

  12. Bergevin. Don't blame Therrien. Blame Bergevin. The blame is squarely on Bergevin. Bergevin signed all of his golfing buddies to take jobs in Montreal. Bergevin kept Therrien around longer than he should have. Bergevin deflected blame for the likes of Sylvain and Lacroix and JJ and put it on him while acting like leadership in the locker room was a problem as justification for trading PK Subban (who is now healthy with a .65 points per game average compared to Weber's .55) You can blame Therrien for the on-ice product, but you have to ultimately blame Bergevin because these were his choices. Absolutely nothing in the media has suggested that Molson is a meddler aside from one story that he might have stepped in to ensure PK's contract got signed. Everything else is him trusting Bergevin. This is not a Ronald Corey situation. This all falls on Marc Bergevin ultimately.

  13. I enjoyed Cammy in his time here, especially during the playoffs, and regret that we threw him away for that bum Bourque. (The Habs' track record of pissing major talent down the drain in bad trades HAS to be one of the worst in all of hockey over the past 20 years. In Cammy's case, how many times since his trade have we sat there saying 'if only we had another top-6 FW...'? Well, sure, you had a good scorer and got rid of him in order to satisfy management's ego). The unfortunate thing is the cap hit. Otherwise he'd surely be worth taking a flyer on, even if he is struggling.

  14. I write for a second site called Pro Hockey Rumors (it's the hockey version of MLBTR for those who know what that is). It's a part-time job for me so when I'm on shift there, I can't really work on anything for HW. https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/

  15. Bingo (assuming I can get to writing it - I'm on PHR duty at the moment which means I can't start for a bit yet).

  16. Markov-bashers are not paying attention. He has been invaluable this year. It's remarkable, really. And it's also unsettling, because a team with pretensions to contending should not be relying so crucially upon a 38-year old.

  17. Markov is not dead weight. Old guy slowing down and approaching the end of his career? Yes. But at this time, I don't see Markov as dead weight.

  18. On paper, I'd think he would be. Considering they dealt Eaves yesterday for a 2nd, I also think they haven't been offered that yet or he'd already be somewhere else.

  19. Yea sorry fellas, Plek has been dead weight. Copy and past mishap.

  20. Pleks is making $6m. If he isn't counted on for scoring goals, than MB is even. A bigger idiot than I think he is for extending him.

  21. I loved PK's time as a Hab, I really did. But the key word in your post was embarrassing. There were too many times to count that he did something that was embarrassing. And coming from a geographical area that is saturated with Leaf, Bruin and miscellaneous fans it was alot to deal with. We rode the highs with PK and we also rode the lows with him.

  22. I have been saying all summer I wanted to wait and see with the Weber deal but right now it feels like that is trade is a big reason causing our offensive play. Weber is good but PK was the only real D we had that could create alot of offence. Now we are suffering alot and I think MB have to trade for shattenkirk or maybe Streit as a plan B. First he trade PK so MT would be happy and half year later he fires MT. MB better make a great move at the deadline and bring us at least to the eastern conferance finals or I will join the fire Bergevin bandwagon.
