JoeLassister
Seriously, against Pittsburgh and Columbus, where was our Power Play ??? I mean we have to take advantage of at least one of them... discuss...
habsfan88
Agreed. We aren't very strong 5 on 5 (although we have improved which is good) so we NEED to capitalize when we have all of those PP's presented for us. Easy to lose games if you are Montreal when you don't capitalize on those opportunities. Last night was a very sad night because of that. Fanpuck33
Not saying that Montreal's powerplay looked good last night, it didn't, but Columbus does have the #3 penalty kill in the league.

Habitforming
This wouldn't be a topic at all if Plek hit any of the three wide open nets he had in front of him.

Habsfan84
The PP was bound to stumble a bit but i'm sure we will get it going again soon.
JMMR
When the PP struggles get back to the basics traffic and shots. Which means get Gui out there in front of the net. Edited February 25, 2008 by JMMR
Neech
When the PP struggles get back to the basics traffic and shots. Which means get Gui out there in front of the net. I was thinking the same thing during the game, too bad Gui wasn't in the line-up. No one was standing in front of the net on point shots, Leclaire would just snag them out of the air. One thing that we're lacking is someone who's good at tipping pucks.

Yeah but for the most part that is not what the Habs do to score on the PP. With no Sheldon the habs are taking a lot more wrist shots and snappers. JLP
Maybe teams have figured out they have to play against Kovy's PP spot down below the right faceoff circle, they cut off the chances there and we are just cycling with not a lot of threat. Easy Ryder
Maybe teams have figured out they have to play against Kovy's PP spot down below the right faceoff circle, they cut off the chances there and we are just cycling with not a lot of threat. You are right there, the word around the league is don't get Kovalev the space to shoot. Secondly is cut the pass angles for cross ice passes. The supposed open nets that have been missed were rushed pass, not accurate and not on the ice, up in the air. Third is cut the link between Markov and Kovalev, let Streit do the shooting and since Streit is responsible for the defnsive side he has to be aware of both keeping the puck safe in the zone and drive the power play, that's what confusing him. The second part is what happened all year long, no goals from the second unit. So put your best player against Kovy and relax with Koivu bunch. smon
Yeah, they really need to get some secondary scoring going, both 5 on 5 and PP. It was a good sign when Ryder looked like he might have found his touch for 2 games or so, but it's more of the same since then. Improving scoring is what it seems Gainey is working on trades for. Chris
It's pretty simple, Streit can't hit the net. They pass too much and never have anyone in front of the net. When was the last rebound or garbage goal theyt scored? Know one is willing to pay the price in front of the net.
Habsfan
What I find the most frustrating is that Markov doesn't seem to ever want to take a shot from the point! He's always looking to make the pass. I agree that it works sometimes , but once in a while, Markov should shoot. the other thing is that most of teh shots that come from our d-men(from the point) ever seem to make it to the net. While when opposing teams take shots from the point, they seem to miraculously find their way to the back of the net. Maybe our d-men should spend an entire afternoon practising taking one timesrs and slap shots from the point. HIT THE FV.CKING NET!
Easy Ryder
What we would really need for both wave running would be a solid shooter from the point something like Souray but just for the PP. The shot was so heavy that rebounds were 6-8 feet fro0m the net, that is where most of Ryder goals came from. The fact that a point shot is feared from the goalie is very important, Brisebois floaters make them laugh, Streit has a good shot but not a lethal one, he is more a passer so is Markov. Having 5 guys that cannot shoot hard hurts. Brisebois, O'byrne, Bouillon, Komisarek, Dandenault (who is not a defense but moved because he had nothing to give except speed) Are Weber and Subban available soon ?? They shoot harder than anybody up there.
