As I said, the Habs are going to make a comeback Good call. They can still save the season!
Toronthab
Plekanec's shootout % is worse than I remembered... From now on I may actually prefer Weaver shoot before he does. Yikes. I don't get it.. he sure looks like he knows what he's doin out there... oh well..
Habinator33
Nice comeback road win after a terrible start to the game. Still a lot of stuff to work out but it's early yet. To be honest my favorite part of the game was seeing Malhtora taking the defensive zone draw with 25 seconds left. I pretty much said to myself we'll we are guarenteed at least 1 point because he's going to win this faceofff. I understand Plekanec is pretty hot right now but was suprised they went to him over Eller. Desharnais-Eller were pretty beast for us late last season in shootouts. Hopefully Emelin is fine I saw he wasn't out there for OT.

I was watching the games with friends, and just before this faceoff, I said "That's what you're here for, make it happen." He didn't let me down... DON
Gilbert still makes me very nervous in own end! But, I was in favour of picking up Malhotra last year before Carolina signed him and exactly for the reason you guys speak to. A defensive zone faceoff specialist (much more valuable than a Parros on the bench) How friggin good is Galchenyuk lookin so far!

Machine of Loving Grace
Its hard to say what Gilbert is going to bring to the line up. Its early, so its pretty hard to judge, but I hear ya. He looks pretty questionable at times Gilbert is there until Beaulieu is ready for top four defence, Similar to how Weaver is there until Tinordi is ready. Gilbert is also a puck possession driver. His defence isn't the best but its' adequate. I think he's a better defender than Diaz (and a better offensive player) but we shouldn't expect much more than that. Right handed shot, right playing defenceman. The team needed a stop gap.

PMAC
I seem to have watched a different game last night. 1st period. Washington dominating Habs heads and legs still in TO 2nd even, but MTL starting to wake up 3rd Montreal was ramping up the pressure and was unlucky not to win in going away OT even Shootout Toskarski outdueled Holtby. Chucky out moved Ovi Gallagher came through and the good guys win= All is right with the world for a moment Gilbert is not the best defender but he is adequate and his ability to quickly move the puck usually compensates for his deficiencies.... I can only see this getting better as he and his team mates get used to each other. He skates extremely well and he back checks hard, I don't know why we expect perfection from all of our players. IF Gilbert didn't have some deficiencies in his game he would be a #1,2 and we couldn't afford him. His game was better than PK's last night which is something I hope doesn't occur very often. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Do I sense that Gilbert is going to become the new fan-favourite whipping boy? Uh oh... Those getting out their knives should remember that the alternatives were either Gorges or Beaulieu for the #4 (!) slot. He is here mainly to eat minutes and help with the transition game, until - as Machine says - Beaulieu starts crowding out his ice time. He is also cheap and on a short-term deal. There's a role for him on this team.
ICEWATER77
thank you Chic, there IS a role for him on this team! Gilbert isn't going to put anyone through the boards or set any assist records..but what he does do will be plenty good enough. give it a few weeks and this team will be rolling just fine

There's a role for him on this team. He's really not a bad player. He's a soft puck mover, but he does a great job of moving the puck up ice. We really need a guy like that on the second pp pairing. He has more going for him in that capacity than Weber or Diaz. I do think he needs to take a few inches off the 'do. You play for Michel Therrien. Try looking like a man. They sure do hate the Habs, I usually spend the games they ref, beside myself... and me and I are crying on each other's shoulder. Great game by Tokarski, and the shootout gang! The absolute worst scenario I can see is Gilbert turning into our #7 next season because a guy like Pateryn or Nygren proved they can provide a better combination of offence and defence than him. Even if that happened, Gilbert and his $2.8M would either get off the cap via trade or it'd be out of the way in the summer of 2016 anyway. But yeah, he's indeed the new guy with a microscope on him. I think it was about to be Parenteau but Parenteau has been extremely good and proving he can provide a lot of offence himself.
johnnyhasbeen
Tokarski stole this 2 points for us. Budaj may or may not have but the same could be said for any goalie. Price may have had that give away goal that Tokarski missed... Silly talk by commentators on that subject. We have a darn good tandem in nets. Happy to say that. The genius behind picking up Malhorta is becoming very clear. We now have 2 very good top offensive lines and a 3rd that is also a constant scoring threat. So close so often. Having a top notch faceoff man for a good skating positional trio of rugged wingers who can handle themselves against just about anyone out there is great for a forth line. The fact that they don't have hands of cement helps too. We should get some bonus scoring from that line. Bournival is in a tough spot but injuries will happen. He needs to get in a game soon though. Liking everything I am seeing so far. We were cold the start of this game but weathered the storm and came out strong in the third. I expected a post-TML-opener let down in the energy level of the team and saw just that. Night before, all the opening night stress, dramatic finish and a huge load off their minds. Hard to find the same intensity the next night against a bubble team. Philly is dead meat. They will be back on track for that one. This team is better than most think. Not LA or Chicago yet, but only experience and a box of rings away from being in that class. Welcome to the first honest shot we had at Stanley since before we won our last two cups! The pieces to the puzzle seem to all be in place to me. Can they all come together to form the big picture is yet to be seen.

Still aways to go. Several western teams would roll right over this habs club. But I do like their chances of winning the east. What will concern me in April (again) is Plekanic and DD as the no 1 and 2 centermen. Neither ones' game holds up once the puck drops for play off hockey. He was god awful. Don't believe me just ask Tokarski
