smon
He's not good enough to crack the Rags lineup, I don't see where he would fit in here.
Mr. Nasty
For the record...the Fedorov rumour was also posted on ESPN and TSN. While Garrioch is way off on his Bonk "source" he may be bang on about Fedorov. Obviously the salary is crazy. Of course there is only about 4 million left on it this season and if we can convince the Bluejackets to take Niinimaa with the deal then the cap room may be there. Athlétique.Canadien
How bout claiming Ozolinsh off waivers from the Rags? He is not what he used to be but with our depth he would be a good PP specialist and maybe free up the team to move one of the three pending UFA's on D for a trade to get a true 1st/2nd line centre. He might be too drunk

I just don't see how we could have trade talks right now, our GM is probably ot back and I don't think that gauthier has the power to do so. anyhow, if he did, he'd lose his job. Oleg Petrov
Also, it was the kind of move that couldn't really wait past Christmas - half of it was to get Traverse back to his family in Massachusetts and stop his turkey dinner from being extremely morose. alexstream
Ok guys, here is the last (and 1st) 2006 edition of the "AlexKlund" report: Defense Fact: Habs will keep Souray and Markov until after the deadline for SURE they are key to our success and to a successful cup run. No matter what their status is, they won't be traded. Assumptions: Souray will leave as a UFA @ 6.5M to L.A. or another southwestern destination. Markov will sign a MAJOR deal with us, something like 5 years 25M. Rivet will either sign for cheap before the deadline, be traded at the deadline or walk away... If we don't sign him before July 1st, he's gone, his value on the market is beyond his value to us. AlexKlund made up rumours: However, a guy like Craig Rivet might be shot in the other direction in a cap saving move if the guy coming our way is, say, Adrian Aucoin (Sheldon Souray's clone, but with a CONTRACT) Why this is good for us: we replace Souray on the mid-long term with Aucoin, a very similar player who won't be as expensive as Souray (who will want McCabbe's number -> 6.5M or more), we make room for Aucoin by moving Rivet, a very solid guy, yes, but easily replaced this season by Aucoin and next season by whoever (O'Byrne?) Why this is good for Chicago: They will be out of playoffs, again, they will be tired of paying Aucoin's 4M, they will have 1st shot at Rivet and will certainly retain him at a lower price than Aucoin and get a very similar locker room effect (leadership/experience). Forward Fact: BG is not displeased with our younglings, but fact is we have far too many of them... and some are pretty similar. Perezhogin could easily be replaced by Lapierre, with maybe a better result. Same for Plekanec. Ryder has a high trade value... Assumption: Kovalev's clutch performances are usually when it counts the most... so he's a keeper for the playoffs. he will be kept. Sammy has no trade value whatsoever. he will be kept. AlexKlund made up rumour: Ryder, Perezhoghin and something like Plekanec will leave for a CENTER... Why this is a tempting package? Young, Cheap and Talented Why this doesn't kill us? Kost, Lapierre, Latendresse easily replace them all (as far as youth, cheapness and talent is concerned) Who is the center coming our way? I heard TBay has half their caproom locked on 3 players... just make your guess.

I heard TBay has half their caproom locked on 3 players... just make your guess. I like it, not totally crazy but a bit on the edge. Great work. As for the TB connection, I highly doubt it, but I'd love to be wrong. After years of hearing Lecavalier will be traded to MTL it isn't gonna happen. A deal could be made to pick up a second line centre in the next few weeks as more and more teams realize that they are dead in the water for the playoffs and want to save some cash. Maybe Jokinen finally leaves FLA after being hosed by "building a contender" before trading Luongo. Better yet, send Rivet, Perezhogin, Plekanec, Ryder and 5 first rounders to Pittsburgh for Crosby! Yes I'm kidding, but who amung us would turn that down?
Haboholic
I dunno if this has been brought up while i was gone on holiday... but is anyone else thinkin that with all the injuries Anaheim has had in the defence position, it might spark a trade between the Habs and them... Souray perhaps? With beauchemin being out nearly 3 months and pronger with a broken foot, they might be wanting some more good depth. Just throwing it out there. MAK
anaheim has the cap room for souray but I don't see any player that I would like and that they would want to give up. I don't think they'd give up a getzlaf or a perry.
JoeLassister
nobody should trade with Anaheim their loosing their advance and that's fine like that BUT i have Anaheim in my fantasy pool so.....
JMMR
I highly doubt Gainey moves Souray in a year when the Canadiens are doing so well. If the Habs were to lose 12 of their lext 15 or something along those lines possibly but not while the Habs are in the Hun for home ice. shortcat1
Oh are you Gainey? Why don't you give it a break? no, i'm not gainey but if you look at the situation from an objective distance, you'll see that this guy (souray) is much too valuable to the team as it is. he's an important part of their success. the only way i see him being traded is if gainey gets a high level defenseman back. you don't quickly move out a 33 point in 37 game player. yes, he may be a -1 but only 5 of the top 10 defensemen are in the + side or, if you wish, only 13 out of the top 30 are in the +. Souray's -1 is very small compared to others. he's going to stay unless he's replaced by someone of similar value... GO :hlogo: GO!

This is a forum, if people want to speculate they should be free to do so. I know your giant brain has looked at this from every possible angle and analyzed the situation and know it is impossible but people still might want to fantasize. I am very sure stranger trades have happened that no one has foreseen over history. It might not be likely that anaheim trades for souray but they have the talent to send the other way to make it happen so it's not impossible so leave people to talk. Sheesh.
