Dadonov's the winger, Shipachyov the centre. Shipachyov should be a decent 2nd or 3rd line centre though I don't believe he's the most responsible in his own end.

Tough day for Condon today, 3 goals allowed on 14 shots in a loss to Germany. Andrighetto had another strong game against the Swedes while Plekanec was the lone Czech player to score in a loss to Denmark.

Yea, brain fart. I knew fully well it was shipachyov, just got the name wrong since dadanov was brought up.

Emelin was Player of the Game today for Russia. That has to be a first for him. Oddly enough, it was his lowest full game of ice time in the tournament (he had one game with just 8 minutes but he was also ejected early on).

Same guy we see with the Habs?

Just proves that the fewer minutes you play Emelin, the happier you are. Me, I'm happiest when he doesn't play at all.

I still maintain that Emelin's hits another level in 'big games.' Of course, I lack advanced stats to back this up. But it seems to be a pattern with him.

Which begs the question, do you keep a $3.9 million player just because he looks worth his cost five games a season?

If his play isn't so bad as to prevent you from making the post-season and you have enough cap space to have a good team, I don't mind at all overpaying by 2 mil for a player who becomes worth every penny of the 3.9 in the postseason.

We do tend to forget MB's adage that 'there are players that help you get to the playoffs, and there are players that help you win in the playoffs.' #74 seems to be of the latter variety.

We'll know more about how cap-crunched we are once UFA frenzy ends. I wouldn't dump Emelin just for the cap room, but if I have something specific and important to accomplish with that cap room - e.g., signing quality UFA FWs - then of course I would. But you've got all summer to get under the cap. Sign first and sort out the mess later, I say.

Certainly DD should be purged from the roster before Emelin, if we're talking about saving on cap space.

DD only has one year left on his deal. Emelin and Eller have two. Out of the three, I'm more comfortable keeping Desharnais and just letting his contract run out naturally than deal with Eller or Emelin having a setback and suddenly being untradable albatrosses and risk having to do a buyout right after the Parenteau buyout is over.

That said I want all three gone.

Emelin has some value on the trade market; we should be able to get a decent asset for him. We'll also have to re-sign Chucky and Beaulieu to much more than they currently make, so we'll need to shed some dead salary there.

there.

Burke and Trev keep barking about wanting the Flames to get tougher. I'm hoping we can ship him to Calgary.

Condon has put up an .885 SV% and won only two of his four starts. He has since lost his starting position in net to New Jersey Devils backup goaltender Keith Kinkaid.

I have doubts about Condon playing backup to price next year.

And people wonder why the Habs fell so far down the standings after Price went down. Going essentially from the best save percentage in the league to the worst is a great way to stink up the joint

I think he would need AHL time.

The only issue with replacing Condon is doing so without spending a lot of cap space. We really need to address the forwards.

I've flip-flopped on this a couple of times already - Should the Habs sign a veteran goalie for the AHL who could push for Condon's spot if he struggles to start next season? That way, they're not just handing him the backup spot outright and have someone in-house that could move into that role but also aren't adding a bunch of money to their cap either.

That said, the veteran to-be-signed in this scenario probably wouldn't be any better, not unless Condon were to really struggle next year (and I suspect he'll be better with a lot lighter of a workload.) Another possible issue with that is that it would force one of Fucale or Lindgren to the ECHL for playing time. And, do the Habs want to use 5/50 contract slots on goalies? 4 is ideal I find and they're going to be tighter to the 50 next season than they've been in recent years.

Watching the Canada-Sweden game yesterday, I must say I'm a bit surprised that Nygren wasn't dressed as the 7th D for the Swedes. Watching the powerplays, they really could have used his point shot and it's not like their 7th D (one of their two Erik Gustafsson's) played a whole lot. I'd rather a specialist as a 7th D over a 6 minute all-around guy in a one-off game.

Its dumb coaching, like Canada dressing Dan Hamhuis as the 7th D instead of Subban.

Now i think Subban should have been playing regularly at the olympics, but I digress.

Even if you buy the narrative that he is too risky, why wouldn't you want a 7th D who can generate offense incase you get into a situation where you are down by 1 in the third period and need to open stuff up.

Naaaah, teams don't need goaltending. It was all Therrien's fault.

Pisses me off just thinking about that Subban ordeal
