Petry gone, Lindström in

McCagg was hyping up Lindstrom with Marinaro, maybe he's a Kovacevic type asset. It gives us the option of marinating Barron in the minors, which hopefully is the plan for everyone but our 1st overall supersoldier.

Will this be the end of Wideman as #7 d?

Assume he likely be waived in Laval or traded if Lindstrom is a notch above him?

There is another move coming IMO

Im hoping it’s Anderson for a great prospect and a pick.

I don’t know if Wideman will be part of a trade or perhaps one of our other Dmen?

Wideman is a guy that you can comfortably sit for many games in a row without worrying about his development. He isn’t a star but he is capable of filling in when needed

I don't know much about Lindstrom but he will be 25 in October and never really established himself on a rebuilding team in Detroit so I won't get too excited.

I agree ... not worth getting excited ... but a Kovacevic type asset would be nice ... solid 6/7 defenceman is still an NHLer.

Is there anyone on the Habs McCagg doesn't hype?

another take on the trade value of Petry vs the trade value of Lindstrom.

I wouldn't make the same comparison, but it is interesting to consider it

Barron marinated already and by seasons end was cooking. He is done with the minors and that suprised me. But he finished strong; if he is not in Montreal he will be somewhere else  in the NHL imo.

I do think Kovacevic is hard to let go of as a serviceable rightie on D but i suspect two young guys are going to look awfully good and the team will trade away Kovacevic before the season starts.

Unless someone makes a ridiculous offer, I expect Kovacevic is at worst the 7D.

And stats guys note he and Harris work well together, who could be a good 3rd pairing.

Harris obviously has 2nd pairing in his game it seems, the big guy might not ever be a 20 minute guy.

But 6'5", RH, 26yr old, $800,000 and is capable NHLer, i hope they dont deal him.

I don't see any of the RHD that can supplant Kovacevic

Savard and Barron are ahead ok.

Kovacevic is the third best guy on that side.

Lindstrom is not as good as Kovacevic

Wideman already lost to him once and will again, and is hurt.

Mailloux and Reinbacher are not NHL ready IMO.

That's pretty much it at RD, so he'd be in my top 6.

Depends what you want, one is more defensive and one is a PP specialist.

Neither is very good.

Might as well go defensive since the PP specialist seems to be anything but ... CW averaged all of 1:15 PP-TOI per game played (46) last season ... he scored zero PP goals and had two PP assists (one primary, one secondary) ... it is true the Habs PP was awful last season (4th worst in the NHL), but as a "specialist" supposedly quarterbacking the PP some of that awfulness starts with him.

Wideman did very well the year before I think and is fine in the offensive zone.

He just seems so scary in own end trying to defend, i would lean towards a better defending 7th-d.

But, they do say Wideman is good team guy in locker room, supposedly is quite witty and also a noted tour guide for at least one new young Hab.

Now he's on waivers.

Doesn't mean he's gone, unless he is claimed ... once the initial roster is set at 5 p.m. Monday, the Habs can make other moves to set the lineup for the first game on Wednesday ... which may include Lindstrom as the 7D if he isn't claimed.

I think Norlinder and Barron beat him out for spots.  I expect him in Laval.

I don't know if I want either of them sitting around as the 7th defenceman ... and would prefer the other 6 playing regularly, in the same position and the same partner.
