It seems like the Florida teams don't mind throwing away 1st round picks like candy. I think part of it is because they have an advantage attracting free agents because of the lower taxes.

How much lower?

No state income tax (VGK, Predators and Stars have the same benefit)

There is literally a chart on the right.... His offensive production has dropped slightly this season, his defence is way up.

Its not him, its that Nashville is shite.

Then Dubas won this trade handily

Sounds like Cozens to Ottawa with Norris and Bernard Docker to Buffalo as the basis of a trade (more pieces might be added when official)

Scratch off a couple options for #2 Cs in Montreal.

Ottawa beat the New York Rangers in overtime and Boston beat Tampa 4-0. Not a great start to the day for the Habs when discussing the teams battling with them for a playoff spot.

I don’t think Boston will keep it up as the season wears on though. Playing with fresh emotion off the Marchand trade.

I watched Seattle vs Washington earlier today and although they lost, Seattle won’t be a slouch in their next game against us Wednesday evening. We’ll be on the second leg of a back to back to boot. They haven’t had a great year but they have a sneaky combination of skill and grit within their lineup. They outplayed Washington for much of the evening.

Wright seems to have started producing for them as well.

Cozens win the game winner for Ottawa with 5 minutes left against Detroit. Would have been a nice little pickup with Dach out of the lineup. With that being said, we would have had to trade a player back seeing as Ottawa traded Norris so it is what it is.

1 goal isnt worth grabbing a long term contract at more than Suzuki is paid.

Agreed. It has nothing to do with the 1 goal. He’s a player with great potential. I’ve always liked him as a player and playing away from Buffalo in a competitive environment may just be what the doctor ordered for him. We simply didn’t have a Norris level player to trade in return so I’m fine with not having gone after him.

Not so worried about the contract, especially with the cap going up.

Suzuki is 8 years @ 63 million (8.875/year)

Cozens is 7 years @ 49.7 million (7.1/year)

If I said Cozens was the 2nd coming of Josh Anderson what would you say?

The IDEAL Josh Anderson or the actual Josh Anderson?

Sounds accurate.  A disappointment and overpaid forward.

That may be the only similarities though

Anderson dropped Chara and seems a pretty tough well respected player. Didnt think Cousins was ever an intimidating player or as fast or physical as Josh is, is he?

That's why I asked. I haven't seen him play much. I have heard people talk about how initially he was fast physical big (anderson) but it didn't keep up. Wondering if what didn't stick was the effort/trying to be a skill guy (not anderson) or figured out/one dimensonal (ie anderson).

Cozens was a high first round draft pick and Anderson was a 4th round draft pick. Anderson’s best year in assists (20) coincides with Cozen’s worst year in assists (20) where he played a meaningful number of games. He actually has 21 now if you add his 1 assist with Ottawa since that number comes from this year.

Cozens is a skilled player with perhaps a bit of a rough edge but it’s not his forte.

The comparison between the two pretty much ends at their height of 6 foot 3 inches.

When Anderson played for Canada at the World Juniors in 2013-2014, he amassed 1 point in 7 games.

When Cozens played in 2020 and 2021, he amassed 9 points in 7 games and 16 points in 7 games respectively.

Cozens is in the NHL because of his skill and point production ability. It hasn’t fully translated to the NHL as of yet outside of 2 of his 5 seasons but the potential is there and likely just waiting to be unlocked. He’s had a high of 68 points in 81 games so he has it in him to have a few 70+ or perhaps even 80+ point seasons given the right circumstance. I don’t think he is a player that lacks effort, but Buffalo is Buffalo. We’ll be able to see what he has outside of that environment now that he’s been moved.
