Habsfan89
This is going to be the highest scoring habs team we have seen in decades. Only sad part of all this is Price not playing in front of these guys.

The Chicoutimi Cucumber
I thought we were outclassed for all but about 10 minutes of this game, but that 10 minutes was enough to score three goals. The funny thing was that, after we tied it up, Colorado reverted right back to controlling the play. Weird. The Avs look like a very strong team - but you have to wonder about a team that suddenly craters in the third like that. Hella comeback by a spirited Habs group. That point *might* prove huge in the end; we shall see. Where has this Dvorak been for the past four years? It’s like he’s suddenly gotten interested. Josh Anderson. Unappreciated because he’s overpaid, but I just want to put in a word for him. He battles every night and I guarantee you other teams hate playing against him. Prime Minister Koivu
Stat card matches eye test for me. - Matheson was an absolute beast - Savard and Xhekaj got destroyed, although I thought Xhekaj did some good stuff. - Slafkovsky was hard on the puck and won many battles

Matheson played well at the end of the game and was instrumental in OT on that PK - but he has been mainly shit the last few games and made numerous poor decisions with the puck on his stick last night. I’m tired of him trying to force passes that aren’t going to get through and taking low percentage shots before there is someone there for a deflection or rebound. Having said that I don’t know how he managed to go on that last rush after the OT penalty kill. Last night was an amazing come come back and if it wasn’t for that shit penalty, (after the refs let the Laine and McKinnon incidents go, don’t know how you call a soft hold) on Slaf, we may have won this. it was great stealing a point we really didn’t deserve until the last 10 minutes - I was ready to call it a night. We are in the drivers seat, for a playoff spot right now, but have 2 tough games in the next three coming up. We need to address a few things. First off I’m worried we are going to burn out Suzuki. He’s working his ass off out there, but I think his effectiveness is being impacted. He had a few shifts out there that were well over two minutes. We are clearly overplaying him and it’s impacted his effectiveness the last two couple of games. Secondly, we need to address the PP again. It’s so friggin frustrating seeing almost everyone other than Hutson just standing there. That has been an issue for years. They were moving around and keeping their feet moving, the only one doing that consistently is Hutson, and occasionally Suzuki. They need more movement. I get that Laine is sitting in his office and when he gets the puck there and has a clean shot he will score most of the time. But he needs to make it harder for the other team. He is just friggin standing there!!!! He needs to at least move around and take his defender covering him with him. Ovechkin shoots for thr same spot on the PP, but it’s not just his shot that is deadly. He is an assassin because his feet are always moving. Laine has been making it too easy for the other team to cover him. Another change I’d like to see on the PP is have Hutson on their for the full PP. on the second unit, if they want Matheson, use two Dmen, but keep Hutson out there. I don’t want to criticize Marty, too much because he has done an amazing job. He’s got Anderson being an effective player. He wasn’t responsible for, or can do anything about Anderson being grossly overpaid, but he has him playing an extremely effective role. He also has got Dvorak’s line going - when they were a black hole all season. But what the hell was Marty thinking putting Dvorak out on the shootout???? I get he has been hot lately, but he scores his breakaway goal when the goalie didn’t have a stick!!! Slaf should have been the 4th shooter after Laine kept them in the game. should have gone with the guy who scored two and has been coming on strong. Getting an OT winner would have given him even more of a confident boost. Got to give the guys that are going to be part of the future and playing well those chances. If it was still tied, next guy I would have wanted us to go with is Roy - he has been much more effective the last few games and we are going to need him to step up and contribute even more to get into the playoffs. I had the Habs finishing between 22-25, it’s crazy we are where we are - without a second line and with Guhle out. But we’re so damn close now that I want to be in the playoffs badly now. I think had Suzuki at 87-89 points, Caufield at 40+ goals and Slaf at 20+ goals and Laine at 20+goals. They are close to it. I thought Hutson had a strong chance at rookie of the year, but he’s exceeded my expectations. Only guy who has really disappointed was Dach. Didn’t have them in the playoffs until next year, but damn it, we are so damn close, it would be a huge boast in the development to get at least one round of playoffs a year ahead of schedule!! Having said that I don’t know how he managed to go on that last rush after the OT penalty kill. Consider that Matheson matched up against MacKinnon last night, I think he played very well. His coverage was good, his stick was good, his awareness was good and he used his speed all night. Third period and OT Matheson was exceptional. Matheson does do stupid stuff and he makes panic decisions when pressured but the over all player is really strong.
Commandant
i thought Matheson played really well other than the selfish penalty. That was the big mistake. But overall he was good defensively against MacK and co on that line. On Hutson, he played over 25 minutes last night. Hes played more games than hes ever played in his life, and we want him to take 2 minute shifts on PPs and play even more. If you are concerned on burning out an NHL vet who plays 82 games every year with a couple extra minutes, why do you want even more minutes for a guy who could have already hit the rookie wall if not for the 2 week break at 4 nations? I dont understand how you can want less for suzuki cause of burnout but more for the rookie? Makes no sense. Xhekaj/Savard is a problem. No doubt about that. Having Guhle back would be a big boost. Given the way the other pairs are playing, Id likely sit savard and xhekaj on a rotating basis and have guhle to stabilize that pair. Hutson and Struble should stay together, as should Matheson/Carrier. Next year we need another RD and savard is really showing his age. DON
Awesome comeback, out them in 2nd and 3rd, but outshot 7-1 in the OT. 0/4 on the PP sucked. Makar & Mackinnon 0pts 6 shots each. 10 Thoughts: A Hard-Earned Point Against Colorado – HabsWorld.net 2nd Star: Mike Matheson – He wasn’t anywhere on the scoresheet but he was all over the ice. With Hutson taking on the bulk of the offensive workload this season, we haven’t seen Matheson’s dominant nights as often as a year ago. But he was at his best in this one, helping create several good chances while using his speed to break up some chances defensively as well, including a key stick check on Nathan MacKinnon in overtime. More games like this would definitely bolster Montreal’s playoff chances. Bottom Six Minutes: An epic comeback in a playoff atmosphere - Habs Eyes on the Prize I can’t quite remember the last time I heard a roar like that in the Bell Centre. A loser point may be a tad disappointing, as a comeback like that usually deserves the storybook ending of a win. Still, salvaging that one point after the start they had was incredible. Commandant
As for Dvorak on the shootout he is hot right now, scoring in a breakaway in a recent game as well as that nice move and backhand to tie it last night.. Also at 42% before that shot, he is the best on the team in scoring in shootouts. He nearly scored on that deke too. I dont think it was a bad choice. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
As we’ve discussed before, the Montreal fanbase has a culture of being too hard on rushing defencemen in general, unless they are elite-tier. Mattheson is a good second-tier offensive D-man. He gets disproportionate grief for his limitations. I’ve had my issues with these stat cards on many occasions, and while I agree that Savard sucked last night, WiFi had a strong game IMHO. In fact I remember thinking to myself that he has really steadied himself out over the course of this season and appreciating that he was playing quality minutes. That epic fight helped too. 42 minutes ago, hab29RETIRED said: Have to disagree about the eye test for Matheson. On Suzuki, I noticed the long shifts too, and wonder if he is stretching out his own shifts. If so, MSL needs to rein him in. Not least because it sets a terrible example. Dvorak in the SO was lunacy but Devo HAS been a hot hand of late. Probably a case of a coach overthinking it. You’ve got Laine on your team, FFS. The Habs mostly looked sort of out of it in the shootout if you ask me. They didn’t seem to come at the G with conviction. Then again I generally dislike it when guys play it slow, which they all did. Move with speed, like a breakaway, would be my modus operandi; but I have no idea what the stats show about that.
