Markov-bashers are not paying attention. He has been invaluable this year. It's remarkable, really. And it's also unsettling, because a team with pretensions to contending should not be relying so crucially upon a 38-year old.

I got to see a lot of Athanasiou in junior and he's not someone I'd want unless it was dirt cheap. He can fly...and that's about it. Anything that profiles him as a two-way player is laughable. At least at the junior level, it was noteworthy if he actually made it back inside the defensive zone some nights. He liked to cherry pick and score on breakaways (and he was quite good at those). I imagine at the pro level they've taught him that defence is actually something he should pay attention to but by no means is he anywhere near good at it. He also is terrified of contact and will go out of the way to avoid it. He's a bigger Paul Byron with better finishing skills but a fraction of the defensive ability and willingness to engage physically. There's a use for him but he's not a core potential player and certainly not worth moving a high quality defensive prospect for.

Agree 100%, cept obviously for your groundhog-day never ending man-crush you keep bringing up over and over...move on. Galchenyuk and that ex-hab are not the same players and like you say are different personalities, both did well under Therrien and just gotta hope Galchenyuk does even better under Julien. Galchenyuk still seems a bit tentative in puck battles along the boards, but again likely goes back to confidence issue perhaps?

Markov is not dead weight. Old guy slowing down and approaching the end of his career? Yes. But at this time, I don't see Markov as dead weight.

Too much doom and gloom, we cannot lose to the forking laffs. I believe that there was a law passed after 3 Royal Commissions that says it is illegal for the Habs to lose to tarawna. We are the better the better and the floodgates will open. And stay open.

Dead weight on this team is plek, DD and markov. We should of traded them all 4 years ago.
