Well, I was basing my claim on a very unscientific conclusions I've made from working 10 years in the hotel & tourism business, but I never bothered with the money issue. You're probably right.

I was in Den Haag a few years ago, and I missed all the games during my stay. I had satelitte television in my room, but no hockey. You might want to try the casino in Scheveningen, perhaps they broadcast sports events from all over the world.

Yeah there is no hockey on tv here, also not on satelite. You need a extra extra cable feed. It will cost ya, but its just since 2 or 3 years you can have it...its called NASN.

Amsterdam is fun, i PM'd you Simonus!

Carbo made a statement with him in the starting line up.

They will stand up with him.

Hopefully last night his daily costly mistake happened with a lead of 3-0.

But next game it could happen at the wrong time because it always happen.

It doesn't worth it to mention anything else about it, we are stuck with him and Price

will have to do more miracles to save O'byrne sorry *ss all year long.

I still hope a trade will happen to bring a good experience right D that will close this thread

for this year.

For a guy who went through what he did yesterday. He played very good today.

hear hear.

Give him a chance, he has size and Habs need that, he needs experience and he's getting that.

Of course at this point all eyes are on O'Byrne everytime he jumps on the ice surface, so people will look for and overanalyze everything he does. Earlier this season Grabovski made Andrei Markov look like an amateur, no one else covered for him, but we got over that awful defensive play quickly.

O'Byrne played quite well overall lat night, but made one mistake in a non-crucial situation... so what... everyone makes mistakes? This is a learning process for O'Byrne, one that's a little harder than expected, but the important thing is that he learns from that play.

You make a nice point here. In media circles, this is known as "framing": you approach each specific event with a prior set of assumptions in mind, and those assumptions shape how you understand that event. (E.g., Stephane Dion is "framed" as a wimp, so everything he said/did was interpreted so as to confirm his wimpiness). What's happened with O'Byrne is the media/fans have "framed" a narrative around him: Habs' Gaffe-Prone Inept Defenceman. Every time he makes a mistake it is fed right into that narrative. Whereas guys like Markov, they have a different narrative: Excellent #1 Defenceman. So his mistakes are seen as aberrations, while O'Byrne's define him.

Anyway it looks like many fans have cottoned on to what's going on and, encouraged by the Habs' resolute support for their young defenceman, are starting to call off the dogs. Let's hope so.

From a TSN article:

Everyone on the Canadiens was quick to come to O'Byrne's defence, especially Gorges, who shot a nasty look toward the crowd after the game.

''I know it's tough because they expect a lot and we expect a lot out of ourselves as well,'' Gorges said. ''I know how it feels, I've put the puck into my net before. It's never intentional, it's a bad break, and nobody feels more sick to his stomach about it than Ryan does.

''I just thought to chant his name was tough because I know how he feels and he'd give anything to take it back.''

Good on Gorges.

Yup.

I hope he learned to put his shoulder into the crest of the next guy that tries to dangle him like that ;)

needs 3rd period confidence. another silly mistake cost him, but he had played a solid game up until.

if I was Carbo next game would play Brisebois more in the 1st period, and use O'Bryne little in the 1st.

And then the 2nd and 3rd period use O'Bryne more.

Mentally he has to get over he made two 3rd period goofs in a row - and the best way would be him to play more 3rd period minutes

to get his confidence back.

Overall they should cut his minutes down a bit, give some more of them to Brisebois or someone else until he builds his

confidence back up slowly.

I watched the Detroit game on Canadiens express this morning, and I was very impressed with O'Byrne's play . His second efforts were great, he never took himself out of position to cream someone. I was impressed with his play. Nice to see.

I also thought that OB rebounded with a solid game, until his brutal turnover and getting walked around by Franzen. Just too many mistakes on his part. I will continue to believe that he is developing, just hope the mistakes start to be cut down.

Still would like to see BG bring in a d-man to play in the top 4.

O'Byrne is definitely still on the upward swing of his learning curve, but let us not forget Gorges. As Gorges continues to improve, I am somewhat optimistic that he might become a legitimate #4.

I too am very optimistic about Gorges. He has started to contribute more and more every game. Does alot of little things that don't get noticed like moving the puck, taking a hit to make a play and playing pretty solid defensively.

He's even contributing a little offensively. With his improving confidence it can only help his game.

Even though Gorges is looking pretty comfy in a top 4 role, it would be nice to have another d-man that could play top 4 in case of time like these when Komi is out. Better to have 5 guys that can play top 4.

Bouillon "Obyrned" against Washington

And Gorges Double "Obryned" against Buffalo - proving he is not a Top 4 defenseman.

He makes a nice 5th defenseman, but I dont think he is a lockdown Top 4 defenseman that you can win a Cup with.

Hopefully Gainey can do some miracle trade to bring a Top 4 in.

Really if you take away the 2 Defensive goofs yesterday, Price should have had a shutout !

===

Well lets see if turnabout is fair play - Gorges sits out a game and bring Obyrne back in.

Although Bouillon never sat out a game.

===

Its been 4 games in row now that really obvious Defensemen blunders have direclty led to opposition goals.

O'Bryne

O'Byrne

Bouillon

Gorges (2)

GET OFF the Kids Back! You should listem to what Lever has said about O'Byrne. According to Lever O'Byrne is AHEAD of schedule in his development and is furthre along then where he was expected to be at this point of his career. The kid is still learning but the problem is he is learning at the NHL level. Was Larry Robinson perfect when he came up to the NHL? How many big defensemen did not have to adjust and learn upon reaching the NHL? Very FEW, Patience, please patience.

What does this even mean? Carolina won a Cup with a D that Gorges would have been the star of. He certainly would have been a top 4 with Tampa when they won their Cup. Actually, he'd be a top 4 defenseman on just about every team in the league short of Detroit, Vancouver and a couple others. And when have Cup victories ever been decided by how good your #4 d-man is anyway?

...and how does one play or one game "prove" anything? *sigh*
