habs rule
I assume there is more to come, it appears that MB is reshaping this team. I see he picked up another dept defenceman.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
On its own terms, it's a quality signing - sort of Semin on steroids.
DON
Lucic scored 55pts last year at 28 years old, he has lots of gas left in the tank. He was the guy who could have changed the identity of this team. He aint a Hab so wont be 'pumping his tires' or cutting him any slack. You would be happy with him for 7 more years?
Machine of Loving Grace
On its own terms, it's a quality signing - sort of Semin on steroids. It's doing that signing right. Getting a Russian that's healthy, in the prime of his career, and more aggressive than ever.

revvvrob
My thots are that when the UFA window opened that MB knew he wasn't getting the Okposos, Ladds et al and that meant Radulov. Wouldn't shock me if included in this equation isn't bad PK out, bad Rad in therefore hypocrite MB, but more like that the dressing room can only handle so much drama. I like Weber. He fits. I loved PK and I absolutely feel MB should have gotten Weber + something. But adding Shaw, Weber, Radulov, Montoya while losing Eller, Subban, Condon (to AHL or waivers) makes the team much better! Maybe not 4 years from now when PK is going strong and Weber is worn out - but for the next 2-3? The Habs are better.

sbhatt
Radulov has the potential to be a huge producer: if this guy is in shape and motivated, he's going to be dynamite...he's got A-level talent.
dlbalr
Looking ahead a bit, this won't affect the protection list for the waiver draft. The Habs could safely leave Radulov unprotected next June since Vegas probably wouldn't want to claim a pending UFA.
Chips
I must say I like this pick up. Radulov has a lot to prove to himself and the NHL. He will come ready to produce and can become that game changer on any shift. Something we have lacked up front since Kovy. Vanek was a bust, Semin was an even bigger bust, however Radulov will be comfortable with Markov and the rest of the Russian gang in Montreal. There is something to be said about chemistry and a hunger to win. Radulov will bring that attitude. I do hope that his childish days are behind him and everyone deserves a second chance. So I will give this, a vote of confidence. Couple this with the Shaw pickup and Montoya backup for Price; with the potential to have a rookie make a move in September to join the big club like SCHERBAK! We might have a shot at making a very good run this season. Questions for the CAP specialist in the house.... What is the potential for adding another piece if we are doing well and show promise ? Do we have the cap space for another addition ? How are we built in case of injuries.. ? Do we have the depth ? All items I look forward to reading about over the next few months. Next move is development camps. Lets see who stands out and is hungry to make a jump and take a role on the big club. Looks like management is making a statement this off season, they expect us to compete and make a run. I hope their gamble in the off season translate into a contender in the regular season. GO HABS GO!

Do we have the cap space for another addition ? How are we built in case of injuries.. ? Do we have the depth ? First off, you really, really don't want Scherbak making the team out of camp. He's not ready; he's not remotely close to being ready. He needs another full year in the minors. If all they do here on out is re-sign Danault, they should have around $2 million in cap space to work with (I broke it down a bit more in the Free Agent Frenzy thread). Factor in around a $1 million buffer or so for injuries/trades and they have a bit of money left to play with, especially when you consider that any other signing would knock someone else off the roster. Depth wise, they're 8 deep in terms of passable NHL blueliners with the addition of Redmond. Goalie wise, they're in nice shape. Up front, the depth is young guys - McCarron, de la Rose, Lehkonen, etc. That could stand to be improved still, in terms of getting a capable veteran in the minors. dlbalr
Radulov gets a $3 million signing bonus, $2.75 in in-season salary. Pricey day for Molson today when you factor in Weber's $8 million payment (and I think a couple of others have July 1 payments as well). DON
But can, or will they move Desharnais (who seems like a 3rd line guy who they could do without), or Emelin who eats up too much cap for a #5 d-man, before Oct?
John B
Atleast Radulov is a legit top 6 forward. Decent contract terms. I don't think they overpaid (in terms of what top 6 forwards get in free agency) and there's no term. He wasn't my first choice...or second ect., but he wasn't my last either. I would say there's a slim chance for Desharnais right now. Why trade for him when you could sign Hudler/Purcell for a similar cap hit? Unless someone really wants a C and really wants just a one year deal, I don't see a market for him. As for Emelin? It depends on how the rest of the D market plays out, it's a lot slower going than the forwards. Demers and Russell are both still out there. Until they sign, I think the trade market is stagnant. BCHabnut
So I still have a really really bad taste in my mouth over Subban. Still sour about it. But the signing of radulov gives montreal their first balanced team since I can't remember when. They have three first liners playing a natural position, three second liners playing a naural position. Bottom six as well. The defense is balanced but I still sort of hope there is a trade out there for a left defenseman to play with Weber. Markov is a bit slow. I'm pretty pumped about the radulov deal. Especially when you look at all the 6 and 7 year deals handed out to middling talent Ladd, Okposo, Lucic, Backes.

habs rule
John Lu tweeted a very flattering report on Radulov from KHL blogger @A_Kalnins I think this is a good signing, IF Le Genius lets him play his game. If he tries to turn him into a grinder it won't work. But now that we Captain Kirk we should be ok.
dlbalr
There isn't any no-trade/no-move protection in this deal either. The Habs really don't have many of those on the books right now.
