tomh009
Niskanen still has a year left on his two-year contract, which begs the question of why he decided to walk away now, before hitting the 1,000-game milestone. He should be fine financially with $40M+ in career earnings, but for some reason he decided to hang up his skates now -- maybe to move home to Minnesota? I think it had a lot to do with playing in the bubble and covid19. Being away from family for that long takes it toll on you. Now could you imagine next year playing a full season plus playoffs in a bubble.

It depends on what they plan to do with the goalie spot vacated by Dubnyk. If they add another veteran, Kaapo Kakhonen is their clear-cut AHL starter but if they decide to promote him, then there may be an opening for someone like Lindgren. The intended (sarcastic) subtext was that Lindgren adds minimal (if any) value to the trade proposal.

That's a given at this point. His trade value is basically another player who will clear waivers, just at a different position.

Even at that those are outrageous figures. Take Cirelli for instance... There's no way he can be considered to be within a million a year of the Aho offer from last year. The kid has potential, but he was on pace for just over 50 points this year, whereas Aho was already a point-per-game player with multiple 60+ point seasons. Cirelli is nowhere near the same ballpark as Aho.

Wasn't disagreeing ... just suggesting that the estimates were what it would take to get a player to sign an offer sheet and the team not to match ... not what they are worth ... numbers (if anywhere near correct) suggest to me that not many RFA offer sheets will be made

But some people think it would be far higher, based on Hirschier's contract. Mind you, this was pre-COVID. I can't really see this as being realistic today, though. https://lastwordonsports.com/hockey/2019/11/01/looking-at-a-roope-hintz-deal-for-the-stars/ This site guesses at $3.25M, but for how long? https://www.defendingbigd.com/2020/4/23/21231353/dallas-stars-nhl-salary-cap-ceiling-floor-flat-increase-projections-cap-friendly These guys are looking at Strome, who would be fairly similar, and are guessing maybe $3M for a bridge deal or $4M for six years. That is actually fairly close to the $4.36M in the original article. https://www.secondcityhockey.com/2020/9/9/21410249/chicago-blackhawks-dylan-strome-restricted-free-agent-comparable-contracts-nhl-free-agency-2020

BIG, young snipers ... add in the possibility that teams think they can poach a player because of internal cap restraints on another team and prices can get driven up ... Dallas ***may*** be a good target for an offer sheet ...
