Indeed it was.

3-2 OT final for Switzerland. The Swiss have a solid if no-name team, much in the mould of the Finnish teams, and they just suffocated the Finnish offence.

The fins looked defeated going into the OT.  Weak board play and poor coverage lead to the goal.  Both things not typically associated with Finnish teams.

Perhaps a little adversity and humble pie is good for Team Canada at the beginning of the tourney. It's not how you start it's how you finish.

No doubt.

I saw Wrights goal but missed the rest of the 1st.  That 5 min major was unfortunate, he shouldnt have put his hands up.  It was frustrating to see them kill 4 mins of it and limit Czechia to 2 shots to see the last minute end with 2 goals in 30 secs.

I thought numerous of the penalties were fairly weak but Canada certainly needs to be better disciplined if they want to win a medal.

Bedard was certainly noticeable out there with 11 shots. Canada was unlucky and sloppy but they should be able to bounce back if they get some decent goaltending.

Good analysis. They were unlucky around the net but definitely sloppy.  Goaltending just wasn't good enough.

Mesar has his first goal now, as Slovakia takes a 4-2 lead over the US, late in the second.

Did anyone see that game?  I wonder what happened, because the 6-3 score for Slovakia over US is certainly surprising.  I was hoping that Mesar got a hattrick, but no such luck.

With 5:03 left and down by 2 Rohrer got boarded, but it wasn't a major penalty.  Too bad, that would have made it interesting.  Rohrer stayed in the game.

Gord Miller said:  in the last 10 mins of the game Austria had more scoring chances than in the whole tourney.

MJ retorted:  yes, but they have the same amount of goals.

Austria pulled their goalie and Germany got the puck out of their zone and went on a 2 on 0 and surprisingly a chasing Austrian player made a great play and actually managed to catch up and knock the puck off the guys stick preventing a goal.  That got a deserving standing ovation from the crowd.

Must be a couple Owners/GMs that are drooling over the prospect of adding this kid.

https://theathletic.com/4042318/2022/12/29/connor-bedard-canada-world-juniors/

"By the time the tournament’s over, we’re going to be talking about him chasing down another record: Jaromir Jagr’s single-tournament scoring mark by an under-18 player of 18 points in seven games. If he does it, he’ll pass Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros’ 17 apiece along the way. He’s already clear of Connor McDavid’s 11 in seven in his draft year, Mario Lemieux’s 10 in seven in his, and Sidney Crosby’s nine in six in his. He might even break Lindros’ all-time Canadian points record of 31 (it’s now four to tie it and five to break it, with as many as four games still left to play)."

For a couple of years at least ... now some are starting to see not impossible adds of it happening.
