Calgary might well "tank" next season ... but most we can hope for is that Florida might "crash".

Regarding the Flames pick it has become simpler to figure out as the Flames pick won't be 20-32 this year and the Panthers 2024 1st rounder will transfer to Philly this year. Basically for next year it comes down to the following:

1) if the Calgary and Florida picks are both outside the top 10 then we get the better of the picks

2) if Calgary's pick is inside the top 10 but Florida's is not then we get the Florida pick

Ideally they both tank next year.

So the best, most likely scenario is that Calgary finishes 11 th worst overall or just outside the playoffs.

I think it’s possible but I don’t see Florida in that range.

If both teams finish bottom 10 then the Habs get the better pick of the two? Even though they are bottom 10?

I don't follow the junior or NCAA leagues except reading updates about our own draft picks.

I read that Stephane Gonzales from BPM Sports, reported that the Canadiens are quite interested in 2024 top prospect Tij Iginla.

If he falls to us is he a player we would want....would he be a good pick?

Yes, it was posted on this board. Would he be a good pick? Only time will tell. He is a fast riser in this draft. Also one of the youngest players available in the draft.

Yes, I consider that the best, most likely scenario as I doubt the Panthers drop so much next year that they are near the bottom. Florida is a very good team but stranger things have happened. (key injuries can happen)

The trade conditions don't specifically mention if they both finish bottom 10 so I would assume (could be wrong) that they would simply get the Flames pick if they both finished bottom 10 because they traded for the Flames pick. That's a good point you brought up and I wondered the same thing but if it's not mentioned in the conditions then it likely just reverts to the Flames pick.

Likely not a big deal as I assume they meet with most prospects in their draft range.

The Habs should be meeting with every player ranked in their range in the draft.  Meeting a player and getting to know them is scouting and gathering info.  It doesnt mean they are picking them.  They are going to do this with all those prospects.

Taking this info and suggesting it means they will take Iginla is just clickbait.  Could they take him? Of course.  But hes one of many names they have met with multiple times.

Of course, part of the due diligence process is meeting with the players. If they meet with a player multiple times then it could mean they have a serious interest.  They have to meet with everyone in their range as they simply don't know who will be available when they draft.

4 times in a short period of time shows serious interest.  If its 4 times since mid-feb thats important.

4 times since september?  Meh thats just due diligence.  You want to scout a player mulitple times over the course of a season to get an idea if you just saw a good game or if its consistent.

Arizona scored 6 unanswered goals in the 3rd to beat Vegas 7-4. I didn't see that coming. Now only a point behind the Habs.

28th place with 5 to play, nice.

https://eprinkside.com/2024/04/04/elite-prospects-pre-u18-top-96-prospects-2024-nhl-draft-ranking

"The top-four remains the same: Macklin Celebrini, Ivan Demidov, Cayden Lindstrom, and Artyom Levshunov. The very top end of that ranking has shifted dramatically, though, as a handful of prospects have taken significant steps forward in the second half of their seasons.

The record-breaking, point-producing defenceman Zayne Parekh rounds out the top-five. Parekh always played a highly translatable offensive game, but his second half has been defined by significant growth as a defender and physical player."

I think Parekh is the most intriguing prospect in the top grouping. No other prospect brings what he can from the back end. It will be interesting to watch him and Beck in the Memorial Cup.

Iginla is really growing on me. Another 3 points last night, 8 goals in 6 playoff games for a 17 year old. Plus as per the highlight of the night, he is great on the forecheck. It seems he can do it all.

If we can’t get the top three forwards. Parekh is the guy I’d want. He looks to be another Makar/Hughes - potentially even better.

Zayne Parekh is a great story.

I’d take him in a heartbeat.

I am warming up to Parekh, would likely be a terrific power play quarterback.

Interesting discussion about Iginla at the beginning (link below), some think he may actually be gone by the time the Habs draft. If that is the case then someone else may fall (Demidov, Lindstrom??) It will be interesting, I have really warmed up to Iginla though, could be an excellent top 6 forward for a long time.

The only teams the Habs can catch now are Calgary, Arizona and Ottawa, 8th at worst before the balls drop.  Calgary has 2 games in hand and an easy schedule. Ottawa finishes against the Rangers and the Bruins but if those teams have their division clinched by then they might be resting some players. I only cheer against the Oilers when they play the Habs but the Oilers have 2 games left against Arizona so go Yotes!!

It's a big game Saturday!!

I don't know how respected these guys are but they were talking about their rankings on another board. This is from a couple days ago. They ranked the top 32 and the top 4 are pretty similar to a lot of analysts (ie. Demidov, Lindstrom, Catton, Celebrini) but after that they are so different (ie Parekh at 22, Dickinson at 15 and hard to believe Helenius at 30!!  Maybe keep our Winnipeg pick if he goes that late).

He talks about Helenius at 15:30 and you can just scroll through if interested.

Habs have a back to back against Detroit to end the season and Detroit is in a battle for a wildcard so I’m expecting a very good Red Wings team.

Yes, those should be critical games for the Red Wings.
