xXx..CK..xXx
Savard and Laine make our team better. We can’t have our perfect lineup every game but our perfect lineup and line combinations are quite good. They simply played like the team we had pre-Laine.This is not to say we should use it as an excuse and there is more to it than that but we had a couple of power play chances that may have gone differently had Laine been there (Heineman did get one) and also those complaining about Pezzetta on the second line, well that’s part of it. I started watching in the second period and was wondering why the blender was out before I found out about the players who were out. With that being said, we did get a lot of shots and their goalie played well. I also don’t think Savard and Laine would have made a huge impact 5 on 5, outside of once again our line combinations remaining intact. Helmethead
Someone needs to slap Slaf. He's one of the rare cases of players who look like they don’t belong in the league when they’re off. And he’s been off plenty. It’s all in his head.

I don't disagree with you, but I do feel that he's starting to get his swagger back, and that's a good thing.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
I recall reading somewhere that protecting the puck is Dach’s ‘super power’ as a player. The important thing is that he is now doing that, whereas before he was doing absolutely nothing. That’s progress and I see it as a matter of time until he takes the next step and starts producing. Slaf is another story. It’s depressing to watch him floundering out there, slow and dopey.

He was doing that quite well a number of times vs Chicago. An improvement, for sure. Slafkovksy needs to rediscover his game. I don't know what it will take for him to do that. Maybe the sports psychologist on the Habs' staff could help him?

I think we need to send him down while we still can and before the big $ salary starts next year. Get him more minutes and get him to keep his feet moving and play more of a North-south board game. Up to now he's been handed too much too fast and right now isn't even earning his rookie salary. He's getting assists. I think only 4 or 5 of them are ones where he has been the play driver, otherwise it's a function of his linemates. send him down for a couple of weeks and rotate in Beck and Roy for a few games each. I share your frustration, and it probably would have been better to do with Slaf what I always want us to do with kids: let them learn to dominate in the minors, then bring him up. But for better or worse, that’s generally not how this management group rolls. HuGo throw kids in the deep end and trust Marty to develop them. For just that reason, they’re probably not sending him down. Slaf and MSL are going to have to dig him out of the hole he’s in, shift by shift. You’re spot on that it starts with moving his feet. He’s too slow.

Likely correct ... but if things don't pick up soon, maybe an alternative is a stretch watching games in the "suite" with Byron and/or Burrows and/or Poulin ... maybe that could be followed by a conditioning stint, which is of fixed duration so not a true "demotion". IN THE HEARTS OF MEN
I can't remember the last first overall pick that didn't play in the NHL day 1... Nail Yakapuv? Rick DiPietro? Stefan? Maybe 2 or 3 players in last 40 50 years?

Yakapov played the NHL season, although he started the the season in KHL because of the lockout ... DiPietro injured his groin (portents of his career) in TC and opened the season in the IHL, called up a couple of times but didn't actually play until January. Yakapov actually had a good start and than bust. he was sent down after he started slumping - it didn't help that he had 3 coaches in I think o his first two years. My worry is that Slafkovsky got most of his points in garbage time last year - meaningless games that don't mean anything when the team was out of the playoffs. Not taking anything away from what he accomplished. It's just that he did that when expectations had become pretty low. It's like baseball players who suddenly get hot in August and September when their teams are far out of a playoff/pennant position. now that there are expectations he just isn't performing. He is getting his points, but really not playing well. Way too match standing around and not using his size. He had a chance to crush Quinn Hughes tonight (cleanly) and just did his usual reach for the puck instead.
