I still like the 72 Summit series jersey the best.

I just spent a few minutes looking at various Team Canada jerseys. I wasn’t necessarily planning on getting a Team Canada jersey but I’m with CC aka the Cucumber; if they win I may consider getting a jersey with the Team Canada player’s name who did the most on it. Not that CC is going to get a jersey, but the concept of only getting one if they win the tournament.

So far, Crosby is leading the way in that category and Marner second. Though I won’t be getting a Marner or Marchand jersey even if Marchand scores a hat trick in a 3-1 victory at the Boston Garden in the Final, with Marner contributing 3 primary assists.

Looks like USA is the favourite to win in HabsWorld Land…

It was 3-9-0-1 until tonight. Figured I’d put the results here before some people vote prior to an obvious final. These were the results the night before every team was still alive!

How about these bad boys?

Team Germany aka Canada 🇩🇪🍁

2004 style

(the jersey actually pays homage to the Winnipeg Falcons who won a tournament [The Allan Cup] in 1920 to represent Canada at the Olympics which were held in dun dun dun…….. Belgium 🇧🇪)

The colors did remind me of Belgium but I simply joked Germany because they have had a recognizable professional hockey team.

Here’s a compilation of jerseys:

Habs29 is right, IMHO, that the 1972 jersey is at, or close to, the top. I never understood why they went away from that in the first place.

The current iteration is either runner-up or the best of them all, for my money. The design is appealingly retro, and the off-white is what really makes it.

The 2010 jersey (far right, 2nd row) in the compilation above is appealing in its simplicity. It also had Indigenous imagery subtly embedded in the flag that was extremely cool and extremely fitting for an Olympics held in Vancouver.

I don’t mind the 2014 version (far left, 3rd row) either. That’s a very elegant ‘graphic design’ take. Maybe too elegant; it might be better suited to a dance troupe than a mighty hockey team. But I dig it nonetheless.

Totally agree that any version that leans into the colour black is bad by definition. Our flag is red and white, folks - black has nothing to do with it. I don’t even like the black shorts, in general. That said, the black outline on the crest in the 2025 jersey is outstanding. Really makes it pop.

If I were gonna buy one of this year’s jerseys, I wouldn’t muck around. In the absence of a Hab, get a name on the back that is an all-time great, transcendant player: Crosby, McDavid, maybe Makar. That’s about it.

Thanks was trying to find an image like that yesterday.

New version seems better than most.

Agree with your take. The all-time worst is probably the second last from the right in Row 1. At least it doesn’t use black, but it’s way too busy. And the whole ‘black and red flag’ crest they kept using in the 80s/90s (Row 2) was shite, and I said so at the time.

Finland and Sweden matchup just underway. I’m not a betting man outside of the Super Bowl from time to time but I felt like putting a wager on Sweden in this matchup. I didn’t, but it really feels like they will win heading into the game.

Wouldn’t bode well for Canada if a team that lost 6-1 to the USA beats Sweden. Although at one point the Sweden game looked as though it was headed for a blowout, and Finland kept it to 2-1 for two periods vs the USA until the 4 goal 3rd period. Lankinen has also replaced Saros in net for this matchup.

Just to be clear about my earlier jersey post, I was joking about the Belgian colored jersey being “bad boys” as I thought they were ugly. I remember not liking them at the time. The history behind the jersey was indeed interesting though.

As for the black jersey, I would never buy one and don’t necessarily like them in particular but black has been one of the team colours for over a century.

“Team Colours”

I can think of Australia wearing Gold and Green, Italy wearing Blue, Japan wearing blue, Netherlands wearing orange. I can also think of very good reasons those countries do so relative to Canada wearing black. Just saying, (for no real reason) the jersey does’t have to necessarily match the flag.

Everyone’s definitely welcome to dislike them though. :D

Lets remember that Canada didn't have a flag until the 1960s.  Prior to that, we used the union jack.  We had hockey teams (and jerseys) being created before we had a flag.

Good point.

This finalist for the flag is pretty crazy. I’m happy with what we went with.

To the game: Finland leads 2-1 after the first. Laine with two assists 🤔 We need Laine to coax Rantanen into coming as a free agent 🤔 Maybe Aho will follow as well 🤔 Carolina can keep Kotkaniemi.

Ullmark just got placed into the game. In my original thread post, I had Ullmark’s name bolded at first as the only goalie outside of Hellebuyck with a bolded name. I usually bold the names of players I think will do well or have a storyline behind them but I had to remove it when Sweden chose to play Gustavsson.

Turns out both Gustavsson and Saros have either been pulled or replaced so far early in this tournament.

Tied in with this conversation, Binnington is the only non bolded starting goalie left. Hopefully this isn’t an omen for what’s to come.

The Canadian flag is a standout among national flags. Simple, striking design.

Binnington, I agree he doesn't inspire confidence, but none of them do as goalies at the very highest level.

Given the USA's 'quick strike' offensive threat, I'm concerned that this will make the difference. A team of that profile is almost ideally suited to matching up against a team with so-so goaltending - they can get half the chances Canada gets and still win. If we had a Price or Lungo, I'd like our chances a lot better, but this looks like a bad matchup in that the USA's strength is perfectly calibrated to hitting Canada at its weakest point. Hopefully I'm being unduly gloomy, as is my wont.

Canadian Red Ensign was the de facto Canadian flag for almost a century, from 1870 to 1965. But neither that or the Union Jack justify the black colour anyway ...

Gloomy or not, kudos for the appropriate use of "wont"! 😊

Fair enough, but as has been pointed out, dutch uniforms in sports are orange, and italian uniforms are blue.  Those aren't colours in their flags.

And I wasn't just talking about black... there was discussion of the yellow jersey too.

Those two countries' colours have super long histories, though: House of Orange dates back to the start of the Dutch independence fight in the 1500s, and House of Savoy (blue) ruled Italy for over 900 years, until 1946.

Where does the black come from for the Canadian sweater colours?

Canada's federal identity program, dating back to 1921, has Canada's main colors as Red and White, with a defacto third color of black.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_colours_of_Canada#:~:text=The Canadian national colours and, those of the national colours.

For the Federal Identity Program operated by the Treasury Board Secretariat, official and signage colours are specified in technical specification T-145.[9] The red colour is named FIP red and represented by the hexadecimal triplet FF0000, the 8-bit per channel RGB value (255,0,0), the CMYK colour (0,100,100,0), or the Pantone Colour Matching System colour Pantone 032.[9][10] White is represented by CMYK colour white (255,255,255) and hexadecimal FFFFFF and the de facto national colour, black, is represented as CMYK colour black; six more colours are defined for use by the government.[9]

A yeoman-like victory for the Finns, played very much how they need to play against teams with far more star power in their lineups. Essentially the same result against Sweden as Canada came out with, so it will be interesting to see the two teams match up on Monday.

First, time to play the United States of Trump today, though ...
