Such a treat to watch these legends share the ice. Yes. He made some nice saves. That gus robbery was price like. The right to left push with immediate left to right push and perfect blocker save. That first Crosby pass on the Mckinnen goal was amazing. Still good to see some international hockey. Quote
Habs Fan in Edmonton Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I am trying to remember the last time I was happy to see Mitch Marner and Brad Marchand score? Quote

xXx..CK..xXx Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 I definitely said Mitch Marner’s name multiple times out loud in celebratory fashion as I drove home (on my own) from the game tonight. Quote
Neech Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Interesting to see Marchand benched late in favour of the Lightning 'grinders'. Sweden's D core might be the best in the tourney. We're gonna need tighter goaltending to stop the American snipers on Saturday. Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I thought this was pretty cool Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I am biased and I know it won’t happen but Montembault should be playing Quote
xXx..CK..xXx Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 Not a bad feeling hearing the Bell Center goal horn as Team Canada celebrates the overtime goal. Quote
DON Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 1st period was pretty entertaining stuff. The real Nate the Great (sorry Nathan Beaulieu) had 6 shots 3 hits. Makar is a pretty slick player 28:06. Crosby not washed up yet. Kinda doubt anyone betting against Hellebuyck & the Tkachuk's vs Finland. Quote
The Chicoutimi Cucumber Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Funny, I still can’t cheer for Marchand. I mean, I was happy when he scored that goal. But my preference would still be that he scores, then trips and smashes face first into the boards. Sweden are hardly pushovers - none of the teams are - so an OT result is not surprising. This will be anything but a romp for Canada. Quote

Prime Minister Koivu Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Crosby stat card from when he was 31 years old. Why can’t a Montreal Canadien have a stat card like this? Quote

I respect the hell out of Marchand for his skill, abilities and success. The man is a very good hockey player and a patriotic Canadian. He is also an ass that plays for a heinous team but he wears team Canada well. I do admit that it was wild to hear the crowd cheer for him Quote
xXx..CK..xXx Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 Another Crosby stat which some of you may have already seen: Hopefully he can keep it up for the rest of this tournament but as stated earlier in the thread, it will not be easy. His last loss came during the 2010 Olympic preliminary round against the USA, before he scored the game winning overtime goal pictured above against them in the final. From the game I witnessed yesterday, there’s certainly an argument to be made in regards to him being the best player currently in the NHL. Not now, of course, but during his prime as well as the entirety of his career. I’m not sure Team Canada wins the game against Sweden with “only” Mackinnon and McDavid. Quote
DON Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 1-0 Finland! Go Lainey and Army Go, a nice upset perhaps! Cant be anyone outside of the US to be rooting for them in this game is there. Shot went right through the star goalie. Quote
Neech Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 Bad goal from Hellebuyck, and then Saaros responds with a bad one of his own. Quote
tomh009 Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 The Finns are definitely not pushovers so far. Quote

DON Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 Laine had one nice set up on the PP but fired just wide and he has a nice hit. Armia with 1 penalty Quote
tomh009 Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 They've rarely had the top players in any tournament. Their strength is playing as a team. Whether that will be enough remains to be seen ... Quote

Lindell is awesome Heiskanen is their best D and he's hurt. They also have Ristolainen hurt. But overall Finland just doesn't have the depth that other countries do. Still they always seem to play hard and are a tough out in these best on best games. Quote
Neech Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 These are the prime years of a golden generation of Finnish talent. Twenty years ago you'd have maybe 3-5 stars and a bunch of no names (that would of course manage to punch above their weight). Nowadays you have 2-3 lines of stars or at least complimentary first liners like Lekky. I wonder if this quantity of Finnish talent is here to stay or if they'll regress back to where they were.
