Active Finnish D

That’s what they have to choose from & Ristolainen/Heiskanen were injured just prior to the tournament. I think Finland just plays well as a 6 person unit in general, so they’ll have to go with that setup in this tournament as well.

I'm not sure how their depleted D corps will hold up over three periods, but you can count on them to play a tight disciplined game.

Seven minutes into the second period, the Finns are outshooting the US 3-0 in the period. 😮

Saaros not covering himself in glory, as the Brits would say.

3rd goal his defenceman tipped it on him.   I hate when D try to block shots with their sticks.

4th goal he shoulda had.

5th is defence breakdown.

Final xG was roughly 5-3 for the US. Defensive breakdowns for Finland, as Commandant pointed out, and Hellebuyck played a solid game after allowing the opening goal.

America has a very good team and the lines I’m posting started the game but the lines changed.

Tkachuk - Eichel - Tkachuk

Is a handful of a line and I wonder if they will get McDavid line or MacKinnon line?

Canada has significantly better defensive depth than Finland does, even with a tough injury.

Canada has significant speed and ability to move to puck up the ice but so does America.

America has better goaltending

Canada’s stars a better than American stars but both teams are stacked.

Put Montembault in net - playing in Montreal, the energy, the moment. I bet Montembault would stand in his head like he did in the season opener against Toronto.

They’re not gonna play Monty. I suspect he is a better and more consistent goalie than the other two at this juncture of their respective careers. But he doesn’t have the pedigree.

I believe G is going to sink us. It already cost us an important point against SWE. The US has a formidable quick strike scoring profile. That’s exactly the right profile to beat Canada, because our G are so middling. It’s a scenario where we can outchance them 2 to 1 and still lose.

Not that anyone wants to hear it but I was in the Habs Boutique the other day looking through the 4 nations jerseys and there were a few disappointed voices saying “they only have Montembeault’s (Team Canada) jersey”.

Not that it means much because we’re comparing a Montembeault Team Canada jersey to the possibility of having a Crosby, or McDavid, or Mackinnon, etc. jersey but I’m sure some people would have been happy to purchase a Team Canada Price jersey in the past, given the circumstance. Especially in Montréal. As a matter of fact, I was wearing a Habs Expos coloured third jersey with Price’s name on the back to the game since I don’t have a Team Canada jersey.

According to posts on reddit there was a large quantity of Crosby, McDavid, MacKinnon and Makar jerseys in the boutique on Wednesday but they all sold out before the game even started.

Personally I wouldn't invest until after we at least make the final game. What good is the jersey if the team craps out? Does anyone have warm and fuzzies about Team Canada from the Turin Olympics?

It would be devastating to Canada because we only have 6 Dmen as it is.

I hope illness isn’t flu related

Looks like Makar will play tomorrow but Thomas Harley is with the team in Montreal and would be green-lit to play if Makar can't go.
