dlbalr
The Habs have added to their blueline, acquiring Mike Weaver from Florida for a 5th rounder in 2015. He's a small d-man but plays a sound defensive game.
Chris
More hobbits, just what they need. Got to think something else is brewing.
Habsfan84
Is this a depth defenseman again? Didn't we have enough? Maybe that means they don't want to rush the kids.

Commandant
His stats, usage, etc.... http://lastwordonsports.com/2014/03/04/montreal-canadiens-acquire-mike-weaver/ Fancy Stats have him as the most reliable of all Panthers D, and playing the hardest matchups of all panthers d. mineral
Right handed shot. Only explanation I can think of. RD. Good, because i was going to say WTF, we just dumped Drewiske to the minors to get older and shorter. Might be safe to assume he's a bottom pairing...so who of Tinordi or Murray sits? Guess Bouillion is really the odd man out at this stage.

Machine of Loving Grace
toughest minutes and best results of all panthers d. So who does he replace? We also got him for a fifth. Hard to wrap my head around this.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
The guy sounds like a solid defensive defenceman who brings some physicality despite a modest stature. I don't have any problem with this pick-up, and it shows a team interested in adding low-cost depth pieces in preparation for the playoffs - exactly what I predicted from MB. Given that he was Florida's top shut-down guy, we can presumably expect more from him than the #6-7 slot...maybe more of a #5 type. Impossible to object to this IMHO.
sim.on
Obviously not a major move. Some of the positives are we now have another RHS D, before PK was the only one on the team and Pateryn was the only other one in the system that is even a potential to play in the NHL any time soon. He cost us almost nothing, id love to see the stats on 5th rounders and their rate of becoming full time NHLers. As commandant stated, he has some reallly good Corsi Fenwick numbers. My guess is that one of the kids will be out. It makes me a little sad because at some point they re going to have to play to get better. It could mean that Murray is out, his Corsi Fenwick numbers are terrible and suggest that Weaver is far superior but I have the feeling that MT is way too in love with his size and physical play despite his short comings. At the very least we now have insurance in case of injuries. This trade basically guarantees that Cube has played his last game in a Habs uni, now we just have to try and move him for a 6th rounder if anyone ll take him. Machine of Loving Grace
I get the feeling Cube is the new Drewskie as the #7. Trade only makes sense to me if we're moving one of Murray, Gorges or Emelin out.
Chris
I'm sure he'll be paired with Murray. Both Tinordi and Bealieu are/were playing the wrong side. Maybe they'll move a LD and Eller for a top 6 forward.
Lovett's Magnatones
toughest minutes and best results of all panthers d. I've seen Mike Weaver play 30-40 times, the best way I can describe him is that he's another Gorges. He's a useful piece at a cheap price.
Habinator33
Didn't know much about him figured he was another Drewiske, then watched this and smiled a bit. http://youtu.be/_X8Zb-j9Pj0
hab29RETIRED
unless we are going to be moving GOrges, i don't get this deal.
sim.on
unless we are going to be moving GOrges, i don't get this deal. Its just depth / injury insurance and it came cheap. At this point MB figures he will be better that Murray, Tinordi and Beaulieu, Id be suprised if weaver is back with Mtl next year
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
If we move Honey Boo-Boo, then worst-case scenario it's an upgrade at the #6-7 position. One injury to Murray, Emelin or Gorges and the trade looks like genius come playoff time. I don't see what's so puzzling about it.
Habsfan
LIke many have mentioned, I believe this is a depth move. If we lose a d-man to injury before the playoffs, then we'll be covered. I was also hoping to see one of Tinordi or Beaulieu in the line up for the playoffs, but looks like they will finish the year in Hamilton...which is not necessarily a bad thing. Detroit has had the habit of letting their young players play in the minors for 3-4 years. They usually do well once they make it to the NHL cause they've had the chance to play in many games! I doubt Weaver, Bouillon and Murray will be in Montreal next year!
Commandant
So who does he replace? We also got him for a fifth. Hard to wrap my head around this. Realistically, Tinordi goes to the minors. If it was my choice... scratch Murray... play Tinordi-Weaver.

Id really like to see him replace Murray even for a handful of games, it would be a worthwhile experiment.

MB and Co aren't into experiments. They're into low risk/low reward moves and building thorugh the draft at a snail's pace. Basically, we're the Eastern Conference equivalent of Phoenix or Nashville. JGC21
Wow, Habs love picking up scraps for D on deadline day. I see no reason why Weaver, Murray, Bouillon and Drewiske will be with the team next year. Would rather see Tinordi and Beaulieu in the lineup.
