Robinson wants to spend a lot of time in Florida, at his home. He doesn't want to be an assistant coach. Note his role in St. Louis isn't as an assistant coach, its as a consultant, meaning he will work from home and fly in for a few days or a week at a time and then go back home. He's not full-time on the road with the team. If he wanted to be a full-time assistant he wouldn't have left San Jose. While I'm no fan of Daigneault, there was no possibility of canning him and hiring Robinson. Robinson doesn't want that job. (I'd still replace Daigneault with someone else though). Daigneult should never have been hired and have been gone years ago. they could have hired Robinson back when they hired Daigneult. They should have at least brought him back into the fold as a consultant. Flight from Stl isn't that shorter than from Montreal.

nihilz
I find the string on the new jersey's pathetic. It's sad that Adidas tries to keep a retro look while denying it of its actual purpose. Literally, t!ts on a bull.

We all know from the sad saga of Sylvain Lefebvre that merit is not the primary critereon for being part of MB's management team.

The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Assistant coaches are one thing, and it's self-evidently asinine that MB did not do more to secure Big Bird's services in that capacity back in 2012. That was probably the first sign that he is more concerned about his ego and his bum buddies than about winning. But I wonder what these "consultants" do, exactly. It sounds as though they are very highly paid to serve as occasional all-purpose sounding boards - which itself has a definite whiff of "NHL old boys rewarding their pals" about it. Maybe I'm cynical, but I take it as an open question whether or not they make a whole lot of difference or represent huge added value to an organization.

dlbalr
A couple of young former first rounders hit the waiver wire in Calgary today in Hunter Shinkaruk and Emile Poirier. I seem to remember reading that Montreal had some interest in Poirier but he wound up going three spots ahead of McCarron that year. That said, he's coming off a pretty lousy year. C-Love
I would jump all over Poirier. He has some issues with the bottle, but he's still young and worth a look I'd think. Maybe coming home would be the best thing for him.

I'm Mad that they don't have him in the Habs Family Period but then again the last cup was bitter sweet (for me) for that exact reason. The cup came home against Bid Bird in black and silver. To me even getting him up in the rafters was too long. If Saint Pat can come back from the big doors, why is it so hard to open up the Zamboni door for Bird Bird. That door even just rolls up with a small tug on the chains, don't even need to pay an usher to hold open the dang thing!!!

No one else thought he was worthy of a claim either to be fair. He needs a good start to his season in order to restore any sort of tangible value and the best spot for that to happen is in the minors. dlbalr
If the Habs are indeed looking to add some grit (the Chris Neil speculation), I wonder if they'd take a flyer on Nicolas Deslauriers out of Buffalo who is on waivers today. His offensive game isn't anything to get excited about but he's willing to throw the body around and drop the gloves from time to time. Would they view him as an upgrade on Martinsen in a 13th/14th forward role? (And if so, would they think it's worth using one of the remaining contract spots for a marginal upgrade at best?) hab29RETIRED
So the flames sign Jagr and we signed hemsky for almost the same money (if you don’t include the bonus that is contingent on the flames making the playoffs). even with the bonus, we could have signed him for roughly the same amount we are wasting on Hemsky and Streit - and had money left over to sign Markov and still have $2m in cap space.

I also don't think they are the same player. Jagr is a powerplay specialist, who is slow and not so good five v five or defensively. Hemsky has become quite good defensively and at 5v5. He's not that good on the powerplay.
BCHabnut
It wouldn't surprise me if hemsky outscored jagr this year.
