Anyone else finding the increase in ads, especially full page pop-ups, annoying?  I can live with scrolling a little farther to get to content, but forcing me to deal with pop ups multiple times to navigate 2-3 pages is annoying AF and appears greedy.

i understand sites cost money and time to maintain & manage but this has seriously degraded the user experience.  It is  to the point I will likely cease using the site, remove the bookmark.  I’ve been a Habs fan since  before I learned of this site and managed OK, although the past many years I’ve come to rely on this site for my Habs specific news and views.

While I get that may nothing to most, a customer experience plummeting from 9/10 to 2/10 should be alarming to the business minds at work on these decisions.   The site is usually part of my daily pleasure reading, it is not longer a pleasure with these changes to the advertising model.  You’ve gone way too far.
When editing a word, had to go through another pop-up, that’s 4 in the 5-6 pages I’ve accessed today. Total BS.

You... the guy who repeatedly has been an asshole to the writers on the site... are going to stop using the site?

Congrats Brian... you did it.

Not gonna lie, I have found the ads here a bit more intrusive than other sites.

I think it’s only on the mobile site. The desktop one seems OK—maybe because of my ad blocker?

I'm on a mac, using Safari. Going between pages, a full page ad pops up nearly every time. I don't have an adblocker installed on this device, though.

Unfortunately, I don't have any control on the ads; the integration into the forum's database and coding is well beyond what I understand.  Yes, I've noticed they've been getting worse as well.  I'm sorry that they're getting more intrusive but this is our site's sole funding source and we need the ads to cover the day-to-day costs.

Yes, 'The Athletic' is nice that way.

The ads drive me nuts, but is the way things are now on most sites, some seem worse than others but pretty standard to expect these days.

I would be willing to pay for a premium (ad-free!) forum membership.

I love this ad advertising this.:wall:

There might be a way to do something like this.  Is this something that would be of interest to others?

In the meantime, we've made a couple of tweaks on the ad settings from Google AdSense to see if this helps.

I’d rather endure the minor annoyance of the ads than pay. The key for me would be that any paid membership not result in a structure where subscribers have privileged access to the forums. In other words, my preference is to keep the ads and retain existing functionality - not have my access compromised unless I pay. But if the point of paid membership is purely to avoid the ads, then sure.

That's how I feel. If you charge for the site then it will discourage people from joining. It shouldn't cost money to voice your opinion. I have no problem enduring the adds in order to enjoy the site which I enjoy very much. Thanks to those who keep it going behind the scenes.

We think we've figured out how to get rid of ones like that moving forward.

just for that, you get to have some more.

and just because someone doesn’t always agree with the brass doesn’t make me an *******.

But again, it’s OK for you to say shit like that (calling me an *******) and throw out insulting terms as long as no one else offends your delicate sensibilities eh?

Guess what, you’re an ******* too! We all get one!

EABOD bud.

No full page pop-ups anymore.

Seems like something changed and I am Happy for that.

If it was a direct action to make such a change, thanks for listening to the powers-that-be.

To be honest I really haven't paid much attention to the adds. I realize you have to pay for the site somehow, a cost of doing business.

You must have been using a browser with ad blockers then b/c it was impossible not to notice the full page pop ups that required action to close before landing on the desired page.

There would be one when loading the main site page, another when linking to the forum, another when going to post and another when going to make an edit.  That’s what brought me to bring it up.

I am well-versed in the economics of web hosting, but it was extreme.

It appears to have been remedied, am grateful someone gives a crap about user experience..

You obviously chose to ignore the numerous times I post that mentions a quality article, quality observation or solid theory.
I am not the first user on the site you’ve caused problems with, insult, accuse of bad behaviour that you yourself partake in as well.
Ever thought perhaps you’re the problem and just projecting your own failings onto others?
