Go to 4v4 preseason games for more open ice. Fewer preseason games so teams don't have to have high roster counts, which would naturally eliminate some of the scrubs. Journeyman AHL guys don't need preseason evals.

I think you need to play 5v5 if the purpose is players being evaluated as well as players developing chemistry and line combos (and coaches assessing combos).

Apparently Hughes/MSL not certain the Sens won't be looking for "revenge".

If Hutson is not playing then I think that is confirmation he has made the team. Nothing more to prove.  No surprise there.

AND that MSL expects he would have a target on his back tonight ... frankly, I am surprised that he is risking Guhle.

If Xhekaj has to fight the bro code fight tonight then I hope he breaks their face

Greig taking ownership with his late blindside hit and then finally answering the bell, pours a little cold water on this game.  I want to see Xhekaj  play hockey and remain out of the box and on the ice today.

Hutson has locked up #3 on the 2nd pair almost from day 1.

The top 4 is set

It's the bottom pair that's up in the air

I think its simply cause Guhle hasn't played at all and he needs minutes before the season opener.

I agree ... but *** IF *** the Sens are head-hunting "star players" tonight Guhle seems like a prime target ... I also fear Montembeault might be a target *** IF *** it devolves into that sort of game.

Pretty sure was noted that Hughes and Sens GM met earlier, to discuss lineups.

Not sure if that is normal or not for exhibition games?

A couple of guests yesterday on TSN690 said it was not uncommon.

Feels like a new rivalry is beginning with Ottawa.

it's going to be a fun season

It's been brewing for about a decade now.  Really started around the time of the Eller injury in the playoff where MacLean blamed "player 61 (Diaz)" and Prust called MacLean a bug-eyed walrus.  It's been tense on and off since then really.

Montreal PP continued to suck

Their second power play might have been their best of the preseason.  Admittedly, that's not saying a whole lot but they had zone time and some chances.
