DON Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 How will Engstrom look i wonder? Think we kinda know how Hutson/Mailloux/Reinbacher will fare at camp (great/good with puck/solid). Quote

Prime Minister Koivu Posted September 13, 2024 Author Posted September 13, 2024 Looks like official lines for scrimmage against the leafs. Interesting that Farrell is on Beck’s wing. I consider those two to be in competition for a spot. Quote
DON Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Tuch-Xhekaj-Thorpe is a bigger line. I think Thorpe was said to not be overly physical for his size and skating needs work, but interesting checking line. Is Struble likely bound for Laval to make room for Hutson? Mailloux is now #24. The Chicoutimi Cucumber Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 I voted “no” to all three poll questions 🤷♂️ Given Dach’s history, 82 games seems optimistic and somewhere around 70 seems more likely. Caufield can score more than 35, but I suspect he too will get hurt at some point and miss a few games. And smart money has to pick the Habs falling below the bar, although I think they’ll be close. When you consider that we have only three defencemen truly pencilled in for slots - Hutson is likely a lock, but how will his overall game hold up over a first full season? - a lot would have to go right for us to make it. They’re very canny questions, though. Especially the Caufield one. Quote

I am trying to get excited for the start of the season and to have a positive mindset: but as @The Chicoutimi Cucumber writes, there are too many "if"s I hope Beck plays a lot of minutes in Laval, I am planning to follow them closely all season Quote
Commandant Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 I voted yes on Dach and Caufield, and no on playoffs. Quote

DON Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Canadiens Notebook: Reinbacher must remain true to himself to land NHL job (sportsnet.ca) "I was also told Engstrom’s apparently an incredible golfer, too. He confirmed, saying he shot a career-best five-under par at a local golf course outside of Montreal a couple of weeks ago. Take it for what it’s worth, but I think that says a lot on how mentally strong Engstrom probably is. Shooting a score like that takes much more than a good swing and a steady putting stroke." Quote

DON Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Will be interesting to see if extra training in montreal has helped his offense. Canadiens Rookie Ground | In Search of the Rare Pearl | The Press (lapresse.ca) He has given himself the means to make his place, by doing his summer training in Brossard, in the team's facilities, under the supervision of Adam Nicholas, director of hockey development. "I was renting an apartment and at the arena, they offered us lunch and dinner, made by chefs. We have the gym and the skating rink every day. It's hard to do without it! » Quote

Commandant Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Beck scores to tie it at 3 That one was stinky on leafs goalie Quote
Commandant Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Controlled game. Leafs goalie was just better. Lost in shootout. Hutson was best player on the ice. Quote

I agree with your assessment of the game. But I thought both Mailloux and Beck and Cowan were better than Hutson. Quote
Habs Fan in Edmonton Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 I didn't see the game but checked the Leafs board to get a different perspective. Hutson must have been good because even some Leaf fans were impressed. They thought Reinbacher was a dog. Of course they couldn't stop raving about Cowan. Quote
Commandant Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Cowan was the Leafs best player. Mailloux and Beck both impressed. Hutson is dynamic though. Hes different. Hes got that something special only seen in Montreal during the best days of subban or that magic season of Kovalev in 08. Everytime he touched the puck, i thought he was gonna make something exciting happen. Quote
Commandant Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Caution of course that its just a rookie game and no telling that will translate to NHL. Just thats the dynamic i saw here. 2 Quote
