Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

The Habs have been burning rubber with two nitrous-fueled comebacks - first, Laine came up clutch against the Rangers in overtime, and then a late-game lamp-lighter by Evans got the checkered flag versus the Lightning.

It’s time to put the pedal to the metal in Motor City and leave the Red Wings in our dust.

I was expecting Dobes to start but Montembault gets another game.

Geez.. I didn’t look.. didn’t think it would come out so fast. They want to get ahead of speculation, I guess…. I was expecting Dobes then Monty back at home.

Now what ? Monty for both ? Dobes for NJ or Winnipeg ? Weird choice… Detroit is the easiest game. If there is an easiest …

Maybe it’s win and you’re in now 🤣

Tough poll

Suzuki or Guhle I think

Yeah, I thought it might go to one of the three earlier signed contracts… Slaf is the biggest question at the moment. The Caufield, Guhle and Suzuki contracts are good value. I couldn’t put Matheson in… maybe I could have and predicted his numbers too… but I thought 8 choices was enough…. and he might be the least likely to be kept of the other four “faked” contracts.

But you must choose only one… so decide between the two you got.

Had to go Suzuki.  Guhle is great value, but having a point-per-game 1st line center that can play defence for under $8m is insanely good value.   Just the production should land Suzuki in the $9.5m-$10.5m range.  Open market, Suzuki would fetch $11m+.

I think you need to look at rest.

If you are planning on playing Dobes one of the three games, you make sure Monty gets the 1st and 3rd game so he has max rest between the two starts.

That means Dobes for NJ.

They are keeping it 1 in 4 or 2 in 5 for Dobes.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.

Turn and face the strange.

We might find Hutson at 9M, 4 years from now is a steal.

Laine might get 60 goals while being paid 10M.

We might flip Evans to another team in 2 years for a 2nd and a 5th.

Dach might be really breaking out in 2 years time after signing for 5.5M.

We were lucky we got those three contracts (potentially four), signed before the big bump in the cap begins. We have 3 significant cheap contracts for 5 to 6 years (and maybe a fourth).

It could also be that the 4 others on the list prove just as good a deal, but they signed when more information was available about the future of the cap. We will only see with hindsight. But we can speculate now with the poll.

For the times they are a-changin’….

I would hold off on any valuation with Hutson right now.  He's a year and a half from even being able to talk contracts.  I wouldn't hold hope that at his current pace he will be signed for $9m AAV.

Bouchard, prior to this season, was being valued at $9m AAV.  Hutson is arguably already just as good or better than Bouchard.

I think we can re-sign Hutson after July 1, 2025…

We signed Guhle and Slaf a year before their deals would kick in.

Hutson burned a year already on his deal, but this is still his rookie year.

You are correct, I missed that a year got burned on his ELC.

Hutson can sign an extension on July 1st.

In another weird move, they sent Beck back down and don’t expect to bring another player up for Detroit.

One game road trip, okay…. But still.

I guess there could be Cap management considerations… or they need Beck for a couple of games in AHL…. But still.

That Mk1 RS1600 is considerably older than Suzuki! 😂

If Hutson continue like this and same next year or dare I hope he gets even better? Then 9M/year is a steal.

Just me, but i am not too concerned or given any thought to what next contract might be.

I mostly just hope he keeps helping them win and stays healthy.:gohabsgo:
