Y'all are good. If we all band together and say "Babcock", can we will it into existence?

Somehow I think that might be out of our powers but ....ah what the hell, let's give it a try. So I heard Babcock pissed in some bodies shoes and is going to be fired.

It sounds like Gallant will be the first coach for Vegas.  That's a good hire for them.  I'm still not sure why Florida let him go to bring in a lesser qualified coach who proceeded to worse than Gallant did.

He was my choice after, MB blew it last year, not firing MT and hiring  Boucher.

There were rumours that ownership put the blame on Ekblad not looking like a world beating defenceman on Gallant.

Florida is a basket case - a case study, that is, in meddling ownership.

Great coach and great guy. He'll be a perfect fit in Vegas.

Anyone else noticing that Nashville is up 3-0 on the Hawks? Our old buddy PK is eating massive minutes in the series, but not getting a lot of points or highlight-reel plays. It looks as though he finally learned to play the White Way - safe, reliable, minutes-munching, etc. If so, that's a shame. I wonder if the trauma of being traded from a place he loved finally broke him?

I know I'm getting WAAAY ahead of things, but the likely elimination of the Hawks - probably the best team in the league - is yet another domino falling in favour of my theory that this year represents the best chance the Bergevin Habs are ever likely to have to go all the way. Other dominoes include the fact that the Habs are mostly healthy for once (knock wood), that Letang is out long-term (which hurts Pittsburgh, a top-tier contender), that the Sharks and Wild, arguably also top-tier contenders, are both either injury-prone or faltering, and that the Metropolitan Division has to beat itself up. If the Leafs were to upset the Caps, this would be bad news for us Leafs-haters, but - rationally speaking - still more good news for the Canadiens in helping to clear a path for whichever team wins this series. Of course none of this means jack if we lose this series, or the next one. Nevertheless, the big picture is shaping up nicely. We just have to seize it.

As someone who has watched more Preds hockey than Habs hockey this season and all three Preds/Blackhawks games, it boils down to this:

- Subban doesn't look 100% yet. He looks slow compared to the rest of the Predators skaters. His passes don't have the same sizzle so the long ice passes either get picked or missed.

- He's doing the one job he rarely gets credit for and it's the one job Lavi loves him the most for: shadowing. He's been shadowing Toews for the past three games and has almost completely shut him down and neutralized him. His defensive play has been great. For defensive play, he's the best of the Predators.

- He's still eating up a lot of minutes on the PP and has elevated Ekholm's play. Josi and Ellis have been great as well. The Predators have a true top four. There is no first pair or second pair.

- The biggest point? He doesn't need to make the highlight reel play. the Predators don't rely on Subban to make things happen the way Montreal did. He doesn't have to look down the roster and realize if he isn't carrying the offence, nobody will.

- That said, Predators have controlled 77.5% of the scoring chances when Subban is on the ice. His relative corsi is 7th best in the playoffs. Basically he's a team player now because he's playing for a team.

If the Preds were down 2-0 going into Nashville, I think we would have seen the highlight-reel Subban. All season long I've seen examples of that Subban come out for better or worse (it was ugly earlier in the year when he was first coming back and looked mighty rusty) but it usually happens when the Predators players are asleep and someone has to come in to bring the noise. If the Predators play the Blues next round and Rinne isn't at the top of his game, I think we will see "Playoff Subban" emerge. But his play has been excellent. It's not the PK Subban I fell in love with, but when you got guys like Kevin Fiala and Arvidsson who bring tons of flash up front, you don't really miss it either.

Massive minutes, who you trying to kid? He is 4th among Nashville d in TOI? So Josi and the others must be eating Super Mega Massive icetime  are they?

With the way Subban has been playing it led me to wonder about his time in Montreal and the relationship he had with the coaching staff. I agree that it looks like something is different in Nashville and it's likely for one of the following reasons.

1) Therrien gave Subban a longer leash than most think

2) Subban had no respect for Therrien

3) Laviolette has him playing a specific role

4) The trade had a mental impact on him and made him feel as though he needed to play a different way

5) He's playing through and still recovering from  injuries

I think the Preds do have a more skill throughout their lineup than the Habs. I believe Subban would still stand out on the Habs more than he does on Nashville, both positively and negatively. Maybe the kid just tried too hard as a Hab as well. Nothing wrong with that.

All of them  (Josi, Ekholm, Ellis and Subban) get massive minutes.   Josi/Ellis got more icetime in game 1-2  and  Subban/Ekholm got more in game 3.

Unlike Montréal where Nesterov and Beaulieu can log 15 or 13 minutes,  in Nashville, the 3rd pair doesn't really get more than 11 minutes.  They barely reached 13 in a 5-0 win the other night...

Exactly, All four guys are over 25 minutes a night.  I'd call that massive minutes.  All four guys are also around 2:00 a night on the penalty kill.  They are all playing hard matchups.

Josi has the most minutes.  But the other three, its a very minor difference from 2-4.  All are carrying huge loads.

But that doesn't support Don's narrative that subban is a useless cancer and a Primma Donna that a winning club would want

Considering Toews tweet when the deal was made last year, I would venture a guess that he isn't all that happy with having to face Subban - he seemed to score a lot more against Weber
