I have to wonder whether this didn't happen late last season when Burrows had (again) proven he couldn't deliver.

I had similar thoughts partially because of the late season bump to the PP but also the very inconsistent reporting on who was actually responsible for the PP.

I hope the Habs go from a terrible PP to an okay PP this season. That would be a big win

In Dach’s golf presser he was talking about preferring to play centre but would play wherever they wanted him to.

Is it even possible St. Louis does

Laine - Newhook - Dach

I think Dach would be the centre, and Newhook the winger.

However, they should share faceoffs with whoever is on their strong side taking the draw.

I like your faceoff suggestion. Dach hasn’t been great on the dot so strong side draws makes good sense

Montreal Canadiens
OVER 75.5 points, -120 (4.5 percent)

The Canadiens are a team on the rise that added Patrik Laine to an improving lineup. It’s hard not to like them to hit over 75.5 points, a total they bested last season.

The team’s core is getting better each year with Juraj Slafkovsky’s full season progression being the most notable. That group is getting Kirby Dach back after he missed almost all of last season with injury, and adding the electric Lane Hutson to the backend. The Canadiens are on the upswing and it feels like this is the season the show it.

Who is Habs #3 goalie (if an injury)? Dobes?

In hindsight, wasnt it kinda seen as a mistake to sign Primeau early?

Can Fowler not force their hand simply by leaving school?

He can't leave school and become a free agent like Pitlick did because not enough time has passed since he was drafted.  He could leave school but Montreal still would hold his rights for two more years.  If they didn't want to sign him, they'd just tell him to go find a contract somewhere overseas.  Not that this would happen of course.

This is the relevant CBA section [8.6 (c)(ii)] for him leaving school early:

If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 is a bona fide college student at the time of his selection in the Entry Draft, or becomes a bona fide college student prior to the first June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft, and does not remain a bona fide college student through the graduation of his college class, his drafting Club shall retain exclusive rights for the negotiation of his services until the later of: (a) the fourth June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft, or (b) thirty (30) days after NHL Central Registry receives notice that the Player is no longer a bona fide college student; provided that if the Player ceases to be a bona fide college student on or after January 1 of an academic year and the Player: (1) is in his fourth year of college and has commenced his fourth year of NCAA eligibility, or (2) is in his fourth year of college and is scheduled to graduate from college at the end of his fourth year, then in the circumstances described in (1) or (2), the Club shall retain the exclusive right of negotiation for such Player's services through and including the August 15 following the date on which he ceases to be a bona fide college student. The Club need not make a Bona Fide Offer to such Player to retain such rights.

Well, let see if Josh studying Josh's 23-24 play helps.

Would be a bonus if the powerhorse was productive.

Canadiens training camp: Josh Anderson’s transformative summer, Joel Armia things are back - The Athletic (nytimes.com)

“There’s so many things I would write down on a paper, probably eight to 10 things per game. It was just little things. Can I turn up right here? Do I have to try to beat the guy going wide? Are you finding the open space? Sometimes I caught myself … sometimes we have rollerblades on where it’s easy to glide. Can you just stop and just be quiet a little bit? I find myself gliding a little bit too quickly. It was just little things like that.”

I didnt see Hutson's pass in slow motion, just love it, the forwards will be getting some nice opportunities off his stick, for sure.

Basu vs Pronman

Canadiens prospect rankings under the microscope: Corey Pronman defends himself - The Athletic (nytimes.com)

"Fans of the Montreal Canadiens were so aggrieved by Corey Pronman’s recent NHL Pipeline Rankings that they hired Arpon Basu to take a deposition from Pronman in advance of formal legal proceedings seeking compensation for the harm he has done to the fan base."

Habs need to trade a forward to make room for Kapanen. If Dvorak can be traded then that would be ideal. Perhaps Dvorak would get picked up on waivers if he can’t be traded.

It would be a shame to send him back to Europe simply because there isn’t a roster spot.

Kapanen must have really made an impression. I think it will be really tough to trade Dvorak right now with his contract, likely way easier and better asset management to do it at the trade deadline. It's only 1 more year.

I don't know man... I would probably wait until we see more of him than 13:58 of the very first preseason game.

They don't necessarily have to do much of anything to get Kapanen on the roster.  If they want, they could just slide him in Harvey-Pinard's spot.  Not ideal but if they want to keep him around or evaluate a little longer into the season, that's the quick way to do it.  And by then, someone else might be hurt/injured.

Kapanen's team lost a centre to injury, was noted he would likely centre 1st line and #1 PP unit.

Wouldnt that be better than bottom six minutes/role with zero PP or offensive opportunities.

Playing with Armia/Gallagher or Roy (and, uh, Anderson) is not a grinder role, there should be offensive opportunities there even if not PP. And PK opportunities, of course ...

It’s way more than just this one game.

He has been playing great for a year.

If Kapanen can’t play a regular shift such as 3rd or 4th line then it makes sense to have him back in Europe.
