hab29RETIRED
If they want those 2, Pleks and Ryder , or either one for Marleau I'd tell them to piss off, as Pleks was better than him srt8 up down the stretch last year. Agree. Especially since Marleau is going to be a UFA next year. I think Pleks is the ideal 3rd line centre. With him we can have three scoring lines and he is also a good special teams player. Davehab
Well, you can bet Gainey is going to have a new contract lined up if we make a deal for Marleau. yeah I hope so. I was also hopeing that the sharks would take negotiating rights for Souray as part of the deal for Marleau, but time is definatly running out on my dreams. ie. rights to Souray plus a seond round pick next year for Marleau Edited June 25, 2007 by Davehab
BTH
Plekanec is a perfect third line centre and a solid player for our team, but San Jose might want him in a package in exchange for Marleau. I would try every option possible to have him not included in that package, and I'm sure Bob will try to keep him as well, but you never know. As far as I can tell, Joe Pavelski and Plekanec are very similar. I don't think Wilson would trade Marleau in a deal where the main asset he gets back is a guy he already has. Souray's rights make more sense but their value straight up in a trade would only be a 2nd rounder or so. We'd definitely have to add a forward to him. CoRvInA
interesting case for our post draft Dmen full teams these Dmen are now available a few will be UFA and more are Wavered. (I still think wavering your Capt isn't cool) http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/231662.html http://www.rds.ca/senateurs/chroniques/231666.html A bunch of powerplay specialists ... which I think we dont need! still One third line agitator and a D for free? CoRvInA
Sounds odd but why would SanJose preffer Drury (allegedly) to Marleau? Doesnt Marleau bring size and Drury is all grit and all arent they a bit worried he might be too small for the Western Conference?

CHice
I have a feeling if we are able to get Marleau, Plex might not be on the Habs anymore sadly. why not?
CoRvInA
Any chance we might be regretting it afterwards if Plek starts wracking it up next year! I just thought of Briere when he was waivered all around etc... still when he was just about in the same position Plek was he had already scored over 30 goals in pheonix
JMMR
Plekanec was the only habs not to slump last year he was very consistant and I would fear trading him. When he was with Kostitsyn and Higgins they were amazing. I would be upset to see him go but if Bob feels the time is right to make this sort of move he will do it. mathieu30
According to rds Marc Denis is not available. After losing his number 1 job, and than losing his #2 job at the end of the season there was speculation he would be no longer in a Tampa uniform. Well.. he's staying in Tampa, according to rds that is.

That's beside the point... I've always thought Plek was among the first to be traded. not because he stank but rather after Higgins and Komi, Plek is the most consistent of the habs newbies with higher projections. still for argument's sake Lapierre ,Grabovski etc... could still be possible candidates for trade? what about Chips? Again else after Plek do we have in the Bullpen that has any projections of being a top 2 line centre?

I'd say that Chipper should be a no-go considering trades, the same for Lapierre ... 2 very good defencive forwards we've to keep. Grabovski might be the odd man out in the near future as we should look for a more gritty center with offencive skills. Pleks is a great 3rd line center in my eyes - he has superb two-way skills and it wouldn't help us if we trade him now.

I like all of these guys and don't want to get rid of any of them, but seeing as you have to give something good to get somethign good, Grabovski would be my odd man out too. His style of play and his size probably make him not that suited to Montreal. We do need to keep players like Chipper and Lappy because they'll be the cheaper defensive forwards that we'll build from within. otherwise, we have to keep paying ~ 2M for players a la Johnson and Bonk coming from elsewhere to fill that role. If we had to lose ONE of them (since like i said, you have to give something good to get something good) okay, but only if what we're getting back is really worth it. Latendresse is a keeper. 19 in his first year and 16 goals. Dealt really well with the pressure of Montreal. Big guy. Plays tough enough and could easily turn into a power forward type. Plex I REALLY want to keep. As others have said, he was one of our most consistent guys last year, and he's not done improving. Actually, if Plex, Chips, and Lappy are all going to remain centers, they're almost redundant. Higgins and Komi shouldn't even be on the block unless we're talking about getting crosby back. Grabo is the only one according to TSN who has the potential of being a second line Centre (actually top 6 forward) where as Plek is a 3rd line centre according to them. the rest of the BullDogs are not considered yet. No doubt BG MUST get one via trade or UFA but Boy o Boy... Next year's draft we are so going to be saying "What another Centre?" a 6th Centre??? I know the Habs like to address their problems in bulk (6 D's this draft) but you almost wish they'd spread it out so all the prospects playing the same position wouldn't all be close to ready or ready at the same time... in terms of their redundancy, I know they play different styles, but at the end of the day, they'are all (Plex, Chips, Lappy) solid defensive forwards with the ability to contribute offensively. Grabo as our second line centre with Koivu as our first is back to the whole 'smurf' argument of Briere and Koivu as our top two. We need to get BIGGER down the middle. Tony
Interesting note from Dave Pagnotta from the Fourth Period (who was at the draft): http://www.thefourthperiod.com/columnists/pagnotta.html The Anaheim Ducks listened to offers for goalie Ilyz Bryzgalov; the Buffalo Sabres has no interest in dealing the rights to Daniel Briere or Chris Drury; the Montreal Canadiens were shopping for a top-six scoring forward; the Vancouver Canucks tried to acquire the first-overall pick; the Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers were involved in serious trade discussions; and the San Jose Sharks mulled over deals for center Patrick Marleau. Sure the name we heard it was Marleau (from Eklund and RDS) but he's not really a 2nd line guy, more like a first line center.

Where's Chipper? He's also a C. do you move him to wing, or do you move Lappy to wing? Or do you figure he's still in the AHL?

Stay in the AHL or trade or if he can bump Lapierre he will get a shot. Personally I think he will get traded, we can't keep all of these rookies in the AHL forever. I don't see Gainey doing anything now, it seems like he will just keep making these small "non moves" to create the illusion of progress while we go into next season with another mediocre team. Chris
Are you nuts? Chichura or Lapierre won't be getting moved. They will be the 3rd and 4th line centers for years, starting next year. The rookies are taking over vets positions more and more. I agree BG won't do much more due to no trading partners and some garbage can't be moved. There will be atleast 3 rookies filling spots next year. Chipchure, Kosty and another winger. Possibly even Obyrne.
ShortHanded
If we bring in Marleau (knock on wood) that's Koivu, Marleau, Plex, Chipper, Lappy at C. We either play one of Chipper or Lappy on the wing, or even plex, but he's a solid C, or Chipper stays in the minors... I REALLY don't want Plex to be part of the trade if we get marleau. I think these guys will be integral to the team in years to come. I see the "new core" being built around Higgins, Komi, Plex, Chipper, Lappy, Lats, Markov, Price...
