The point shots seemed to work this time so I can't complain much. I actually liked the one PP where they didn't score but moved the puck really well in Toronto's end and at least were looking to get the forwards involved. It's that type of variety that will actually help free up Subban's blasts.

I'm pretty sure you are talking about the PP mid way through the 2nd period when we held possession for pretty much the entire 2min in the zone. Moving the puck around fluently with all 5 guys....

Ironically it was 2 righties on the point the entire 2 minutes (sub ban on the left and petty on the right)

Sloppy game for sure; also a game, like our first game of the season, where our superior talent (Price, PK, Patches, Galy) produced victory despite an inferior overall effort. So I see this as a 'coast on your talent and win' kinda game - the sort of game that most teams can't get away with.

If it weren't for the back-to-back nights thing, I'd say that this game is a sign that a losing streak is imminent. When the players stop getting the fundamentals right, you can still eke out a win or two, but sooner or later you're going down. However, if they can rest and re-focus, we may yet avoid that fate.

Nah they are going to get their act together. The leadership won't allow this to continue. Le Genius (coach of the year) won't allow this to continue. It was a warning, and may they had gotten complacent. With the schedule in front of us they could conceivably go 15 or 20 and 0. Write that down for later on when I go "I told you so"

I'm with you on the d pairings on the pp. I noticed that too. Just needed a right down low on the left side to complete the set up. The set up would like to see.

I hope you're right, but we usually play like crap in the western canada road trip and I have to hear about it for weeks from my co-workers in Calgary,

Good points.. no pun intended. I remember that PP as well and loved the variety.

Have we seen enough of Semin yet, to criticize him and call for a replacement (even if just a game or two)?

It's just an intuition, but my guess is no. I think the game is to drag him in as fully as possible and that gets done with playing. He's in a really good room and that's contagious. I'd let that contagion work its magic. Same with our other head case. It's a chance to have some fun.

Just people were hoping he would play a bit desperate being cut loose by Carolina, but to me he seems very soft, slow and not 'real' motivated and maybe a younger more hungry winger couldn't be worse could he?.

Semin needs a little bit of confidence and needs to shoot a little more. He's turned over the puck quite a bit and needs to be better but I'd still rather him in the lineup than any of our younger prospects, win or lose. I don't see sending him to the press box as being any type of wake up call and I still have confidence that he'll be more consistent than any of the kids.

He's definitely someone that I want to see more out of but personally I'm willing to be pretty patient with him.

I think that on a team that has been as good as ours, anybody who makes a mistake or two will stand out. I don't think Beaulieu or Gilbert have been "that bad" either but then again they've probably been the worst of the D. Yesterday in particular, Semin had a couple of turnovers, one that ended up in the back of the net. When you've let in so few goals the whole season, many of which have been "nobody's" fault, the mistakes that cost goals are likely to stand out and that player becomes the scapegoat. I really like Semin, but he needs to be and can be better. He'll be fine though, I expect a few multi-goal games from him this season, actually.

Its still really early in his time with the Habs and the room. Patches talked about his gradual development of confidence and how patient coaching was important in his development.

Yes. Looking back, when was the last time anyone was impressed the the habs 3rd pair anyways. Are there any teams out there where the fans are "impressed" with the 5th and 6th dmen?

The days of having Datzuik, Zetterberg and Luc Robitille as a fourth line ended with the Cap. Same with six star dmen. Expansion watered down the league, then the cap made everybody share the stiffs. There was a time when a player of Gliberts ilk simply could not make the Montreal Canadiens.

It is what it is.

Having said that , I'm OK with young Nate, Tinordi, Pateryn, and Gilly making up our bottom four? These days its hard to ice better than that, without giving up a key forward. MB would rather wait for the younger ones to develop more. Cant say I disagree.

Semin hasn't even been that bad. I don't get the hate already

Pros: Tremendous shot.... good passer... strong on boards.... good hands.

Cons; His defensive game is a disaster, and he cant skate and keep up with his linemates.

If he can't fix those cons, he will end up a powerplay specialist at best, and not a top 6 winger.

Perhaps the most logical post you've made. That being said, it's easy to critique and pick apart any team. The fact that this Habs team has been one of the league's best over the last few years is a testament to those supporting them rather than bashing them.

"most logical post" I prefer the one where I guaranteed Carey Price would win the Hart trophy before the season was half over. But thanks anyways.

I don't think he has been lazy. I think he just doesn't have the speed.

When Eller let Moulson walk in and shoot, that was laziness. Semin in the same situation would have tried and not kept up.

That said, his ability to keep pucks in the offensive zone is big. I think he's been good, just not great.

You're having trouble with the word logical. Guaranteeing a Hart trophy win for a goalie halfway through a season is the opposite of logical.

I still want to see what Holloway can do in Semins place but it might be a good idea to wait 5-10 games more for both players first.

See if Holloway can continue to produce in same fashion in the AHL and to see if Semin might improve his overall play. Only nine games in yet and no losses.
