Back to Laine... boy does this move put players in their proper chairs when they are all healthy. You have to believe another move is in the works still. I just don't think Anderson works on a traditional 4th line.

If we can move him than we can be cap compliant without having to put Price on LTIR.

What Im most stocked about is an improved powerplay equalling to more goals and likely more W's if we want to make the playoffs. This is imperative for a team that played in soo many 1 goal games LY.

I think everyone here is excited to see what a healthy Laine can bring to the Habs. He is still only 26, he sounds happy to be here. Plus Demidov coming in a year and a healthy Dach this year. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about the Habs.

Anderson doesn't work anywhere...but if he is ever going to rebuild his career, he should start on the 4th line, focusing on physicality and the defensive end of the game. Get back to being a beast along the boards and carving up guys behind the play. Maybe some offensive jam will follow, or maybe not. But that has to be the foundation.

The last time I was this excited about the actual roster was September 2020. The last time I was this cautiously optimistic about the future would have been about 2013. Objectively speaking, though, this is probably the highest per centage of potentially high-impact talent that the organization has had since the first Gainey rebuild; and we have good reason to think that this group will work out much, much better than that one.

Question for you all.

Who from Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf or Laine lands on PP2?

Or are we running with 4 forwards and 1 defenseman??

If we start the season with  PP1 the same as last season than

PP1 vs  PP2

Matheson - Hutson as the QB

Caufield - Laine left side one timer

Slav - Roy Right side one timer

Suzuki - Dach flex

Newhook -  ?? Bumper

Who plays the bumper and if it's Roy as the bumper, then who is our left handed one timer on the right side for PP2 that Hutson will feed

We typically run four forwards and 1 D.  We did all of last year and for both units.

I'd go with Gallagher on PP2.

He still knows how to get to the net and cause havoc when he gets there.

He'd be by choice to as the bumper provided no moves are made before the introduction of Ivan Demidov in March/ April! ;)

Lehkonen had 18 goals as a rookie in Montreal.

Yep. He had a few snake bit years after that. But you could never accuse him of disinterest, laziness, poor hockey sense like you could with Anderson and Armia. But than he didn't have their size and that seems to be that most important quality🙄

Will depend heavily on if Dach is healthy and consistent as a legit 1a/1b

Just a twitter fan poll but these options have been discussed here so I’d thought I’d share.

The results didn’t post but after 700 plus votes:

38% option 1

58% option 2

4% option 3

I’m option 2 but I get the thinking behind option 1 so I would be okay with it.

I'm option 1 if Roy does well enough in camp to earn a spot and the Habs determine they have a long-term interest in testing Newhook at centre.  If their long-term goal is for him to be a C, then making him the 3C makes sense as just tossing him there when injuries arise isn't great development-wise.  Look what happened when they tried that early in the season versus him being there full-time when he came back from injury.

Great post and argument supporting choice 1.

I agree that if Newhook is their third centre going forward then option 1 makes sense. I posted elsewhere that if this is the case then Dvorak could be a goner

OR Evans ... he might have more market value than Dvorak.

I don't think they are keeping Dvorak cause they want him at 3rd line centre.

I think they are keeping Dvorak, cause if there was any way to move him without using their last retention slot, it would already be done.

I do like option 1 if possible as it makes it easier to have one of Roy/Demidov in that top 6 spot long term and Newhook as the number 3 C long term.

Are we moving one of Evans or Dvorak to wing, or trading one though?

Yup, Dvorak has zero future with the Canadiens, especially with Beck coming up. Savard will likely be the last retention slot unless some remarkable deal comes their way. Dvorak will almost certainly finish out the year and then we wish him the best in his future endeavours.

I could see Evans moving before/early-in the season ... Dvorak at the deadline if he plays well.

Keep them both and wait a couple of weeks until one of the centres inevitably gets injured and the surplus resolves itself.

Option 1 if Roy earns it. Should give him a decent look in any event.
