Prime Minister Koivu Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Holy crap Habs have two strong offensive lines Quote
Commandant Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Wooo that's an awesome.deal. Harris is all.we give up and we get a 2nd. 1 Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I read it wrong and thought that we gave up the second. It will be an early second rounder and it opens a spot for a young Dman to make the roster. Home run deal Quote

Meller93 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Woooah! Now that is a home run swing! This is the kind of risk you love to see. The risk of course being Laine's 8.7 million cap hit. BUT, the is the last year of the contract if I'm not mistaken. Quote
Habsfan89 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Man under Marty Laine could get back to his old scoring self. This is the management team I have been waiting for so long. Montreal will be a scary team in 2-3 years Quote

With full retention the cost was never going to be great. How many other teams could take on the full amount? Hughes decided to use the cap space in this manner and next year just got a whole lot more interesting. Stay healthy Patrick and Kirby!!! We might have a 2nd line. Quote

sbhatt Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Feels like a steal if Laine is even halfway good for us. Rid ourselves of a low end D prospect and got a 2nd round draft pick in return as well...that's a nice piece of GM work. Quote
tomh009 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Hughes is swinging for the fences. Let's see whether St-Louis can work his magic again! Quote
Habsfan89 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Could we be on the verge of seeing the best Habs team since 93’ ? Quote
illWill Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Amazing deal for the Habs. We clear out some of the log jam on D and also fill a much needed spot in the top 6. It's a high cap hit, but we have plenty of space and it doesn't hinder anything too important in the near future. We can either resign him, trade him at the deadline next year, or just let him walk to free agency. I fully trust Hughes in each of those scenarios. Man this team is going to be fun to watch Quote

It is a swing for the fences but sometimes you have to take that swing. You can't be conservative all the time. Quote
