Hutson shouldn’t have tried that single handed rush.

A point is a point I guess

Yup bad decision to give up a 2 on 1 with only a forward back.

Suzuki also should have changed during that rush. He was gassed

Oh well, wasnt a boring game and 41 shots is much better, outgoalied in this one i guess.

Gallagher (5 shots) & Roy scoring was nice to see, Slafkovski with 5 shots also.

Feel bad for poor Newhook unable to bury one (4 shots).

10 Thoughts: Horvat’s Pair Gives Islanders The Win Over Habs – HabsWorld.net

3rd Star: Jayden Struble – There’s nothing flashy in the stat line to give him this spot but he just had a very solid and reliable game.  Moving up to play with Hutson has been good for Struble who seems to be a bit more confident despite playing on his off-side.  With Kaiden Guhle aiming to return before the end of the season, this is an important stretch of games for Struble.

I second the notion that Dobes should probably get the next start...that's two games in a row where Monty has given up bad goals.  He looks tired...a couple of days off would do him some good.

Exactly.  Kind of rush you try when the other 2 players on the ice don't include Patrick Laine.  Laine went too deep in the Ozone as well on this one.

I was happy to see Patrick Roy get a win on a tough year for the Isles. But would have been happier if the Habs had won.

I like three lines out of four on this team. Too many 3rd liners on the team and no true second line type players.

I am still confident the Habs will play at least one round of playoffs this year.

What a terrible stat card for Matheson

Not on the stat card but Montembault wasn’t stellar again. It might be time to give Dobes a game

Matheson probably played too much and when he lost Horvat on that goal, he gave Petry vibes.

I know he didn’t play during the Four Nations, but he wasn’t on vacation like the rest of the team either. And he’s never played this many games in his career, setting aside the Four Nations.

Definitely time to give him a breather.

On the flip side, Dobeš hasn’t started a home game since February 9th and only played one Saturday night home game this year, a 4-3 OT loss to New Jersey on January 25th.

Not that it matters to me, but it does seem to matter to the team. I’m leaning towards thinking that Montembeault starts next game as well.

In contradiction to that thought, Montembeault has played 3 straight games and the Habs haven’t had a goalie play 4 straight games in quite some time. I don’t think it’s happened in 2025. Even though we’re in the fight for our life right now, the Habs may need to stick to what’s got them here.

(Dobeš also beat Colorado last go around)

We can’t dress Monty for the next 14 games. (His career high in starts is 41. If he starts until Game 82 of this season, he’ll be at 64 games. It would hardly be surprising to see him fading down the stretch under these conditions. I’m a big Monty fan, but he’s not Carey Price).

At some point Dobes will have to draw in. There are not going to be ‘unimportant games’ for the foreseeable future, so one game or another, it doesn’t make much difference. We have to roll the dice on Dobes eventually.

Dobes strikes me as the kind of kid who, at this stage of his career, will have big games fuelled by adrenaline, then falter as he shifts to a stead day-in-day-out workload. So apart from sheer necessity, I’m OK with throwing him in here and there and managing Monty’s workload.

Other than next Thursday/Friday and two weeks later on Friday 11th/Saturday 12th, the Habs are in the same mode as Montembeault will have to face if the Habs make the playoffs ... but it likely is too much to ask him to play that much and then continue doing so if the make the playoffs.

I’m not opposed to it, but for whatever reason St. Louis has generally been sheltering Dobeš from home games, as well as home games on Saturday. It might mean nothing in this circumstance. I just believe there is a higher than usual chance Montembeault starts on Saturday. I see plenty of reasons that indicate Dobeš will start as well.

Montembeault was below Matheson on the emailed stat card and that didn't even factor in the OT winner as for some reason, OT winners don't seem to come into play on there.
