The value going to NYI is way too high. For sure I could see one of our centres such as Evans being dealt so at least that one is plausible. Habs Fan in Edmonton
Jake Evans is going to be a UFA after this year. I just don't see any way the Habs resign him with Kapanen and Beck ready by then so trading him seems very plausible.

Not even sure I would do Matheson and Caufield straight up for Lee and Matheson, let alone adding our #5 pick and another 1st on top of that. Commandant
I think Evans is a guy you move at the deadline. He has more value then when teams need a centre either cause of poor performance of their players, or injuries, or just lots of playoff teams looking to add a PK/defensive bottom 6 guy. Might get a bit more. I also like having the depth as we don't know what injuries we will have. Also if you move him for one of Beck/Kapanen to make the team, what do you do if they are struggling in the regular season. Was Kapanen great on Monday? Yes. I still say he's closer than Beck. But I'm not sure he's 100% NHL ready yet. One thing to keep in mind. The earliest pre-season games, he (and all the kids) are going full speed. The vets, they haven't ramped it up to 100% yet and the games in the regular season will be harder.

Can't disagree with any of your points as you usually get the best bang for your buck at the deadline when teams may be desperate. I think we were just discussing it in the context of which of the two trades is most realistic and it has to be the Evans trade by far. I just doubt there is any actual rumor here, seems a sketchy site and they aren't quoting Friedman, Lebrun or any insider, they just say "reports". So yeah, its the better of the two, but that's like being the least rotten apple in a bucket of rotten apples

I remember seeing something a few days ago that the Kings were keeping an eye on what centres might be available. The 'rumour' sites then have come up with all sorts of ideas that they've then written about trying to guess correctly. I haven't seen anything concrete linking Los Angeles to a specific middleman but Evans does make a bit of sense if they prefer to keep Trevor Lewis on the wing. Prime Minister Koivu
Could very well be meaningless but speculation is fun. What does Detroit need?

Helmethead
What more concerning to me right now is Reinbacher’s injury. Laine’s is horrible in it’s own right but he’s still an asset that was acquired using available cap space and not a high draft pick. I know he was penciled in for AHL duty but a serious injury will set his development back. Further adding to last year’s issues in regards to that as well. Reinbacher losing a year of development would be awful for both himself and the Habs. Laine losing a year would mean he hasn’t played in almost two years and that would be disastrous for him and an awful missed opportunity for Montreal.
