Yes I think your right on the gritty guys, I'm also thinking MB thinks of McCarron as hopefully a Bickel type as opposed to Lucic. It would be great if he had more offense but he was picked at the end of the first round.

Bickell is the best case scenario for McCarron.

Machine, I clearly didn't mean that every player that Timmins drafted fits the same profile. Use your head instead of going for petty point-scoring. What I was saying was that those picks or signings (discounting Thrower, who was from the previous draft, and was only included because of those comments by Bergevin) indicate a priority on physicality. At the very least, we picked McCarron and Crisp much higher than they were slotted, and signed an overage tough guy in Nevins. It looks like a conscious change in direction, probably coming from Bergevin. And the (VERY) early returns don't look too promising.

Agree on the culture change, but, only McCarron is below expectations and he is a huge teenager, who as you noted should be given lot more time before you start getting too upset.

A conscious change in direction... despite the fact Montreal has still been also drafting what is always considered a compliment/criticism of Timmin's drafting: small skilled forwards (Hudon, Andrighetto, Reway).

Timmins drafting hasn't really changed since Bergevin came in. People just look at McCarron and make assumptions, despite the fact it really didn't matter who Montreal picked between 25-36 when they had three picks and it was all about who they thought they could get based on availability. We also picked McCarron lower than where Philadelphia and Carolina had him on their draft rankings.

Ain't much difference in when Timmins selected Steve Quailer to when he selected Connor Crisp but suddenly it's Bergevin making Timmins select different players.

They still had largely the same scouting team, which explains the fast, skilled guys that you named. I mentioned around the draft how it seemed like it was a struggle between Bergevin-Dudley and Timmins.

This is all speculation, of course, and it could very well be that these were the guys that Timmins wanted. We'll know after a few more drafts if there's been a change in direction implemented by Bergevin.

De La Rose with a goal today assisted by former bulldog Ryan Russell.

I miss Russell. He was never a top prospect but he was Mr. Versatility with Hamilton.

Hudon had a nice game for Baie-Comeau today with a goal and two helpers. Gregoire had a goal in the same game.

I have watched McCarron play at the Bell Centre during training camp. I was impressed. He goes to the net and is tough to move. Along the board, he also does a good job. He has good hands and can make a decent pass. He sure has things to learn, and has to improve his skating, but I feel confident that he will make the team in two to three years.

I also have the feeling that he is the kind of player who will look better and will contribute more offensively when playing with skilled players. Good players know how to use a big guy like him.

If Fucale can pick up a win in one of his next five outings, he will become the first goaltender in QMJHL history to record 100 wins in less than 150 games.

Well, he didn't waste any time. He stopped 24 of 26 shots and got win #100 today.

He likely will have a ton more regular and playoff games in junior/world juniors and couple summers of training before he suits up for Hamilton.

Fucale wins again!

Snipers Crisp-Nevins-McCarron all score today

Vail continues to pile up points with 2a.

And finally Bennett shows sign of life with 1g & 1a game (but he is a strong skater and good with puck so he may do well in Hamilton at end of playoffs? unless he has to finish schooling?).

Worth noting is that he did so while playing as the 4th line centre. I think yesterday was the first time they used McCarron down the middle.

Its great that he got 2 points... and has 3 points in his last two games after going 8 without a point.

Its a little concerning though that a first round pick is playing on the fourth line in the OHL, even if it is a new position.

Why concerning? He is playing down to your expectations and proving you correct.

But, I will give him another year or so, before pigeonholing him as Tim Conboy or Ian Shultz II and till then will just hope he improves and any sign of life is worth noting at least

I still would love to know how high on Timmins list he was though and whether Bergevin/Molson had a big influence in selection?

Crisp led Sudbury today with 3a and a +3 and not one of 3 stars, anti-goon bias?

Vail 2a on the first 6 Spitfire goals, just end of 2nd (losing 7-6 to Sarnia)

Gregoire & Hudon (3rd star) both had 1g today

Hudon and Crisp both wound up with two goal nights while McCarron had a pair of helpers. Since being moved to the 4th line C spot, he has a 3 game point streak (5 points in that span). London's in Barrie tomorrow so presuming he doesn't get hurt between now and then, I'll get to see him first-hand.
