Even 1st overall picks dont normally make an impact as 18 year olds.

Michkov/Celebrini doing great as rookies but teams suck so dont matter one bit.

Whats crazy?

Michkov also spent a year in Russia post trade.  He's a 2023 pick not 2024 like Celbrini.

\We aren’t scoring or even generating shots (for the most part). Potentially trading away Evans, Savard, Armia is likely not going to help our record.

Habs have lost four out of the last five games. But they have had an xGF% of over 50 in four of those games. Regression to the mean 😊 says they will start scoring sometime in the future.

And other teams will trade away players at TDL as well.

Do Advanced stats play any part in contract negotiation?

If GMs and Agents aren't using them, then they aren't doing their jobs.

of course the side that Advanced stats favour will want to weigh them heavily and the side who doesn't like the advanced stats will say they aren't worth much.... that's negotiations.

How many 2nd picks will they have after the deadline and not trade in June to move up?

2025 Midseason Draft Preview: Round 2 – HabsWorld.net

Guessing finishing around 25th overall;  so likely be in this range or quality of player.

#38 – Charlie Tretheway

USNTDP (USHL) – RD – Start of season rank: 13

#39 – Jack Ivankovic

Brampton Steelheads (OHL) – G – Start of season rank: 32

#40 – Cole McKinney

USNTDP (USHL) – C – Start of season rank: 34

#41 – Shane Vansaghi

Michigan State (NCAA) – RW – Start of season rank: 55

For 1st pick.. say around 6-8; Wheeler has 5 centres in top 7.

2025 NHL Draft ranking: Matthew Schaefer, Michael Misa lead Wheeler’s February top 64 list - The Athletic

Maybe the statistical smudge factor referred to as xGF% has its expectations set too high based on historical shooting percentage and hot/cold trends of the players who were scoring early in the season.

:spamafote: but heck, what do I know :spamafote:

xG is based on thousands and thousands of shots over many seasons.  Its not going to be out of whack cause of someones shooting percentage in October or November.

Its not individualized.  Its everyone.

A 5'10" centre, too bad for him.

Next three have average  (6 foot), above average (6'2") and just bleeping big (6'4") height

After a couple losses on the weekend the Penguins 2nd rounder is looking good. MoneyPuck gives them only a .8% chance of making the playoffs. Hopefully they become a seller and tank even more. Might be a good bargaining chip.

Also went to the Medicine Hat Tiger/Edmonton Oil Kings game last night. Gavin Mckenna scored 2 goals, showed a great touch around the net but didn't really stand out. Obviously it's just one game and his history certainly shows what kind of talent he has. He did look small out there but he is also pretty young. Took a 5 minute major and game misconduct late in the game for a vicious slash. He certainly overreacted to a little pushing but perhaps scouts like the fact he can play on the edge. But a very undisciplined penalty with 4 1/2 minutes to go and the game still in doubt.

Also paid attention to Blake Fiddler who is projected to go late 1st round. A big RD who skates well. I can see why he is a projected 1st rounder, a lot to like there. Not flashy but very efficient.

Flames back in Wildcard spot, for now. Go Canucks!

“Most Important in the Canadiens Rebuild”: Scouts Break Down Importance of 2025 NHL Draft For Montreal

The draft class quality begins to drop after the first five projected picks, but there are some intriguing options if the Canadiens stay in the 8-16 range. Interesting options like Caleb Desnoyers, Jake O’Brien, Viktor Eklund, Roger McQueen and more could very likely be available in the later part of the top-10 and into the teens.

Nice to see the Penguins lose again last night. They would have to go 17-1 in their last 18 games to get to 92 points which is why moneypuck gives them a 0% chance of making the playoffs. Nice

And Calgary is hanging in there. Hopefully they fade the last week and just miss the playoffs.

Wonder if Pens will trade they're pick at draft? Be good chance for Habs to move up in top 5.

Imagine they want to win now with Crosby and Malkin still there.

OR ... might they look to trade as many of Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Karlsson as possible?

Just signed Crosby doubt he's going. Karlsson or Letang could though. Would you take the Karlsson contract on to move from our first to around 5 in draft?
