It seems like something changed this season for Primeau that is different from last year. I have not followed the Habs close enough in over a year to remember. Like Allen who had consistentcy problems when going long stretches without playing. Wasn't he playing lots in Laval? How the hell can you dress a goalie who couldnt stop a beachball. Doubt the rest of roster is as keen as you are in seeing him between the pipes anymore.

He seems confused like if the goalie coach has changed his positioning or mechanics and Primeau has lost his on-ice marks. He is "off" and gets beaten on angles that he should have covered. Always HuGort's fault. Never the player, right?

I decided to fact-check that little voice, and it turns out that Red Light played 11 games in his last season with the team and his stats were better than Primeau's Primeau 11gp 41 goals against, 4.70gaa , .836 save% Racicot 11gp 37 goals against, 4.44gaa , .850 save% You can't just go by his stats. He played on much better teams with a much better D.

That's why despite being seen as #1 in St Louis, he could never hold the job. He was always a year in year out, yo-yo goalie.

And yes, barely playing isn't great for a player's confidence (or technique). Primeau could help his cause by accepting a conditioning stint in Laval (bypassing waivers) to go get a few games in but he refused it last year (I don't know if he has been asked this year or not). It seems that the Rocket D has also struggled recently. Or is it mostly a goaltending issue? I have not seen a Rocket game in months so going only based on coaching comments etc.

I would say The pressure will be enormous for the kid. He's approaching his last chance to have a descent game. He has a ton of pressure to resurrect his NHL career. He's looking at being passed over for an extension by us and then having to sign with a new team and dogfight it up through their ranks. If he can steady the boat and put up a string of decent performances, he will help himself immensely. Has to be a head issue. He’s done alright at every level… I hope he turns it around for his sake, but I think he’s lost the confidence of our fan base.

Habulator
I'm always just slightly amused when people anoint Fowler as our future savior. (he may well be) There is a lot of water to run under the bridge before then. Remember, it wasn't so long ago that Primeau was stopping everything in the NCAA - and was our "heir apparent". If only we had special glasses that we might see into the future...
