It's a 3rd in 2027 but still a late pick instead of a depth player. Looks like the same amount as Montreal this year with 12. Having a year with that many picks doesn't mean the Flyers should stop looking for more picks and getting players back. They're still a couple of years away from really looking into trying to win so they should take the best asset available, player or pick. Commandant
Cozens and Norris are basically the same player. Big contracts based on 2022-23 production, but nothing since.

I think the assumption has to be that Cozens is suffering from the Buffalo Flu, and removed from that crazy tire-fire of a franchise, will return to form. Not a bad bet. Although whether Ottawa is all that great an environment is not quite proven IMHO. (Then again, I hate the Sens, so I will tend to look at them with a jaundiced eye). Maybe, but he played well in Buffalo, and you could argue Norris has the Ottawa Flu, not that they have been better. I think its both teams hoping a change of scenery will help, but who knows in these types of problem for problem moves.

Prime Minister Koivu
Holy piss there are a bunch of teams spending and loading up. Playoffs are going to be amazing. Which team are the Habs going to upset in round 1? 🎉
dlbalr
The Pittsburgh component to this deal feels like something the Habs could have gotten in on. It's a late-round pick for those two by the sounds of it so it would have been a pretty low-cost depth add for a pair of players who are technically RFA-eligible this summer. Commandant
Trade deadline is the saddest day of the year for some hockey players. They learn that their childhood dream of winning the Stanley Cup is delayed another year when TSN announces that they have been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
alfredoh2009
interesting to see PIT and PHI so active this trade deadline. interesting. Senators and Devils seem to have improved their chances of making some noise, but the top teams are so much stringer. I'll be an interesting playoffs. Butterface
As per: https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2025/03/minor-transactions-3-7-25.html The Montreal Canadiens announced they’ve reassigned forward Owen Beck and goaltender Jakub Dobes to their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, for eligibility in the Calder Cup playoffs. Beck has been an extremely effective forward for the Rocket this year, scoring 13 goals and 32 points in 47 games. Meanwhile, Dobes has made a name for himself in Montreal, managing a 6-2-1 record in 10 games with a .909 SV% and 2.63 GAA, including one shutout. Devils are a worse team than they were earlier this week.... Jack Hughes is out for the season and playoffs... there is no replacing that. Senators made a lateral move at best at Centre, (and Norris has been better than Cozens this season, so it might not even be that). Zetterlund isn't bad though. Still they don't scare me. I think the playoff competition is the Devils, Rangers (cant count out Shesterkin and Miller has been great for them), Detroit, and Columbus. We need to knock out two of them, or one of them and Jersey.

Plutarch
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canadiens-management-wisely-avoids-trade-deadline-trap/ Says here Hughes had a 2nd for Armia. I think they should have done that. But I'm guessing they were looking to fill armias spot with another trade if they did flip him and didn't see anything they liked. Butterface
I see articles condemning Hughes and articles praising Hughes for his lack of moves at TDL. For me I had wanted Hughes previously to get any pick or prospect for our UFAs. We are a rebuilding team. Yes, I understand the concept of team moral and veteran help. I think without bringing in a player to replace Savard, Armia or Dvo, Hughes’ hands were tied. We are close enough to the bubble that bringing up an AHL player was not going to keep the playoff boat afloat. Had Hughes had a healthy Dach or Guhle, I think you would have seen a trade. Or if Hughes found a reasonable asset to trade for (nhl roster player) using a prospect and picks, he might have then been able to trade a UFA after bringing in said player. Prices seemed very steep to make additions and Hughes wisely held back. We now have to hope his inaction was enough to make the playoffs otherwise it was all for naught - except for the experience of playing meaningful games late in the season. As for Dobes’ papering down… and no goalie back up replacing Dobes to NHL…. I assume it is because we didn’t have a game on deadline day like other teams. So we didn’t have to worry about dressing a second goalie last night. Dobes’ papering down and then back up for today did not affect our line up. If we had had a game last night we would have had to have a back-up. So it was an easy papering down for Doby. Now if we don’t make the NHL playoffs we have 4 choices for the AHL crease should Fowler turn pro. Dobes, Primeau, C. Hughes and Fowler. Two of those goalies are not in our immediate plans…. Who should the AHL PLAYOFF experience be given to ?
