That qualifying offer next year ($9M) was a big factor in the Blackhawks moving on from him. I think this pave the way to having Kane and Toews waving their NTC, and the hawks being all in try hard to lose for Bedard.
dlbalr
Fleury gets a two-year extension with Minnesota at $3.5M per. That's not a bad AAV but it's a year longer than I think they'd have liked to go.

With just short of $13M in dead cap hit and Minny's need for a goaltender to pair with Talbot, MAF would seem to have had some decent leverage as he was willing to take a reasonable AAV. dlbalr
Detroit acquires and signs Ville Husso to a three-year deal at $4.75M. He was speculated as a likely goalie target for the Leafs after they traded Petr Mrazek yesterday.

Commandant
Goalie market makes a Jake Allen trade more likely. Trade Allen for actual assets. Take Khudobin or Holtby for one year as a cap dump by their teams.

But yeah, the market is certainly tempting.
dlbalr
Duncan Keith will retire, freeing up over $5.5M in cap space for Edmonton and adding $5.5M to Chicago's cap as a recapture charge.

Walking away from $1.5M in actual money ... a lot of money, but easier to do when your estimated career earnings (before taxes and agents fees) are $73,704,878. Sounds like over the last couple of weeks Edmonton was indirectly pressuring Keith to retire. They gave him multiple deadlines for a decision, each shorter than the last. Until earlier this week, he had until July 13th to make a decision.

Threaten to send him down, I guess?

The Oilers needed to know what Keith was doing so they could make some decisions. They have a little cap room now and badly need a goalie and would like to resign Kane if that's possible. If a player is considering retirement in any capacity they will have a higher chance to call it quits sooner after their season is over due to being worn down from that season. If they are given the entire off-season to mull it over, they get a chance to heal and feel better, which leads to a better chance they will return. Oilers took advantage of this by shortening the date they wanted and answer.

TheDriveFor25
Keith was only owed 1.5 this season, so after taxes that’s closer to a million. Lots of money but maybe easier to walk away when his career earnings are north of 70 mil. Too bad Petry prefers a team in the US, would be a good spot to send him back to Edmonton. Oilers top priority is a goalie. After that, it should be defence, but they are all hot and heavy for Kane still.

Probably something between $500K and $600K, after escrow, agent fees and finally over 50% in marginal income tax (even in Alberta) -- he will surely have enough investment income already to cause his salary to be at the top tax rate. dlbalr
It appears the Habs and Senators may join up with Buffalo's prospect tournament in September. That tournament typically has the Sabres, Devils, Penguins, and Bruins. The last couple of years, Montreal and Ottawa have just played a couple of scrimmage games after Toronto bolted on their mini tournament to join one out West. https://buffalonews.com/sports/sabres/inside-the-nhl-big-names-will-fetch-big-prices-when-free-agency-opens/article_18cbbabc-ff70-11ec-a4af-7bc1693bcab9.html
Habs Fan in Edmonton
I am guessing if something happens with Petry that this is the most likely week for it to happen with free agency starting on the 13th. https://montrealhockeynow.com/2022/07/08/nhl-trade-chatter-as-draft-concludes-petry-trade-buzz-picking-up/
