DON
Would seem an outcome most HabFans would be good with. NHL Mock Draft: Celebrini at No. 1 and Levshunov at No. 2 lead Corey Pronman’s list - The Athletic (nytimes.com) 5. Montreal Canadiens: Ivan Demidov, RW, Ska St. Petersburg Jr. (RUSSIA-JR.) I think Montreal would be very happy if Demidov got to this spot; he would add the elite skill they lack in their organization. If he didn’t it gets more interesting. In that case, you’re likely debating between Lindstrom, Beckett Sennecke or Tij Iginla.

DON
A 'powerhorse' centre, just with more hockey IQ and skills than Josh Anderson. Cayden Lindstrom’s dream of playing under the bright lights of the NHL is approaching - The Athletic (nytimes.com) "On the ice, he is a fiery competitor, angry even, seeking to impose his will on his opponents with his hands and his skill and his big frame. He plays as though the player wearing a different coloured jersey has taken something from him and he is going to get it back at all costs. Essentially, the polar opposite of how he is off the ice." "The president of that academy is Ian Gallagher, the father of veteran Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher, and he remembers seeing Lindstrom walk in for the first time as a teenager. “In the 30 years that I’ve been doing this, he’s No. 1 in a number of physical categories: his power, his speed,” Gallagher said in a phone interview Thursday."

No question there is a lot to like about Cayden Lindstrom. He has been one of my favourites for a while, just didn't think he would be available at 5 but the chance to draft a stud defensemen will make some of the teams drafting ahead of the Habs think long and hard. Plus Lindstrom's back injury might make some teams think twice.
DON
Sounds good and then just gotta hope Ducks or CBJ take 1 other. Blackhawks Leaning Toward Artyom Levshunov At Second Overall (prohockeyrumors.com) "To the surprise of no one, Davidson confirmed today the team isn’t shopping their second overall pick in this month’s draft (via NBC Sports’ Charlie Roumeliotis). The team is reportedly leaning toward selecting Belarusian defenseman Artyom Levshunov with the choice, their second top-two pick in the past two years." Habs aint got what these guys supposedly looking for but. Sabres Open To Trading First-Round Pick (prohockeyrumors.com) "The Sabres are open to trading their 11th overall selection in this month’s draft, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said on Friday’s “32 Thoughts” podcast. If so, it would likely be in a swap for top-six forward help, per Friedman. They’re not the only team within the top 15 looking to move their selection, though. The Devils, slated to pick one spot before them at 10th overall, are also willing to trade their pick for immediate help, likely on the goaltending front." Nothing really big here but from the stuff that I’ve seen Lindstrom is a joker that would fit in well with Slafkovsky (who seems to be king shit talker). DON
2024 NHL Draft prospect: Berkly Catton is a dynamic forward (habseyesontheprize.com) Important sneaky question; "The Montreal Canadiens asked Catton their infamous animal question at the draft combine, and whatever your opinion may be on the absurdity of that question, his answer was about as perfect as it gets. Well, picks 10 & 11 rumoured might be available for the right price, but again Habs dont have what those 2 teams really want (i think one was a goalie & other a top six forward). Assume the timeline for an already drafted prospect/young NHLer Hughes would prefer, like the other 2 deals. 9 hours ago, Prime Minister Koivu said: Two and a half weeks to go till draft day. Iginla Catton Demidov Lindstrom Dickinson I want them all I would prefer a Buium/Parekh over Dickinson, but agree that at 5 should find a top six forward or top 4-d. DON
How will Iginla's game translate to NHL? They say he has very high floor and is a safe pick. 2024 NHL Draft prospect: Tij Iginla rising on well-rounded game (habseyesontheprize.com) "There is some concern with decision making, as he is prone to trying some over-ambitious dekes to gain the middle, and taking some looks that were better off not being taken. He gets away with these things very easily at the WHL level, but he’ll need to pick his spots better when he turns pro and has to face elite defensive players that have seen every trick in the book."
