2024 draft, pick 21: Michael Hage

I think a big swing is worth it for every pick. Mid level players are always available. Strike out on talent 7 or 8 times then hit a home run. Back fill the failures with trades and free agency. Never take a safe pick. Unless it's a steady defender maybe.

I did’t know anything about this kid. SeeI g how happy the Habs were after they moved up makes me very hopeful this kid will be really good.

congratulations to the scouting staff and the GM

I, for one, am glad to get this opinion.

Why are you obsessed with Alfredo? Just ignore him if you don't like him.

Really sad story with Hage's father passing away in a freak accident. Seems like a great kid and a Wolverine to boot. Grew up a Habs fan in the GTA and mentioned the 3-1 comeback against the Leafs in his post draft interview. Good size and top-6 upside is what I want from a late 1st-rounder!

I am so glad this forum has the "ignore" option.

“We told him it was a very important year for him and the team, and it wasn’t going our way,” Garman said. “We had a very tough, direct conversation for a good hour. And he said, ‘It’s okay, I get it.’”

"He really challenged me to be better. If we were going to be successful, I had to show leadership and mature," Hage confirms.

I like the direct communication and the kid is only 18 and nobody was mature at 18.

Most folks seem pretty high on his potential and i am just hoping they are correct.

A pretty good summary of scouting reports on Hage. What's impressed me during the interviews with him I have seen are his poise and maturity. He seems mature beyond his years. Talent of course is more important but he seems to have that as well. I really like this pick and kudos for Hughes to be able to move up to 21.

Very happy about this pick. Kid looks like he has good hands! Let's be patient and give him time to show us what he can do!

Added bonus, the kid is a lifelong Habsfan and bleeds bleu, blanc & rouge!!!!!

Habs basically said "We got the player we wanted." and Hawks likely said same about Boisvert at 18.

Unlike Minnesota getting exact player they wanted in Buium.

Thoughts on the Michael Hage Selection – HabsWorld.net

"Before even getting into discussing the player, I want to touch on how weird the process was to get to the point of taking Hage.  Generally speaking, most trade-up/trade-down moves happen during the draft, not hours in advance.  That there were three of those deals league-wide was unheard of."

Catching up with… Michael Hage | Montréal Canadiens (nhl.com)

"The camp was a lot of fun, working with the staff in the gym, Big Cat [director of hockey operations Adam Nicholas] on the ice, just competing. I like the way it was set up. I had a good time."

What i think of when heard that nick-name.

A great profile by Arpon Basu on The Athletic today.

For anyone that doesn't think this kid lives and breathes the Habs, here are his parents a little before Michael was born:
