I’m surprised but not surprised.
Hughes is going down with the ship or perhaps something bigger is a foot?

Or maybe there is a reason that Fabbro's TOI has slipped from 19:19 in 20/21 to 13:06 this season.

Hope not, dont think Hughes is quite as panicked as media/fans seem to be at the moment.

And I think there is no reason to panic, panic moves are usually bad moves. Even though it's frustrating right now, stay the course, minor moves are OK but don't give up young talent just to get a little better in the short term.

I think the money played a big role.  I'm going to expand on it a bit in my weekly Sunday column on the main site but we heard a few weeks ago that they're telling teams that while they might want to do something, they can't take money on which means they want to try to get out of LTIR later on.  Adding Fabbro would have made that all but impossible even though he'd have been a useful pickup.

St. Louis had Matheson on the right side with Hutson on the left. I interesting that they are keeping Matheson on the right and moving Guhle to the left. It's these kind of moves from Marty that make me scratch my head.

Apparently Matheson is capable of playing on the right, as was reported two years go (in the Gazette). Hughes ought to know ...

That also says that Hughes doesn't see veteran RD as a critical need at this point.

Habs Weekly: The Early Struggles Continue – HabsWorld.net

With seven losses, Samuel Montembeault is now the league leader in that category (heading into Sunday’s action).

what a bleak conclusion on that article:

dive to the bottom head first,

we're going to draft first!

“I Really Like Lane Hutson” — Ivan Demidov on Following The Canadiens, Time With Kuznetsov, & KHL Honors

Keeping An Eye On The Montreal Canadiens
On his down time, Demidov has also been keeping an eye on the Montreal Canadiens this season.

Demidov was quick to point out the stellar play of Lane Hutson; one of the top contenders for the Calder Trophy this season, as one of the most exciting things he’s seen out of Montreal.

“I really like Lane Hutson,” said Demidov. “He is playing brilliantly.”

But it’s not all flowers and rainbows in Montreal right now, as they have had a very bumpy start to the year. Demidov, who has gone through his own adversity, related to the young Canadiens roster and remained confident that the team would find a way out of their current funk.

“The Canadiens are in a small hole right now, but this is understandable - they have one of the youngest teams in the league. I think they will fix everything. They will be fine.”

Once Demidov joins the Canadiens, the Habs will be a force to reckon with.

“If you’re a MTL Canadiens fan, you might not like what I’m about to say. But I think now, you have to hurt for James Hagens…The one thing you’re seeing now is that (coach Marty & the Habs players) are in a great mood in the morning…and after (the game) they just look so defeated. That’s a really tough place to be in at the beginning of November….The Canadiens are not one big trade away.”

“I would have a big conversation about: ‘are we really sure that the way we’re playing or the way we’re doing things is helping the players enough?’”

“Next year you could have a high pick coming, you could have Ivan Demidov coming & all of a sudden things could start to look a little rosier.”

“It is really hard to rebuild in this league.”

He may not help with the 4.07 goals against/game issue though.

Honestly, I would ride Montembeault for the next couple games(I know that’s not happening) but you have to see if he can right the ship. Primeau isn’t the guy, he’ll be on waivers soon.

Replaced by who?

With their luck this would be the year two lower ranked teams win the lotteries.

To be honest, I would see what Dobeš has.

If they call someone up from Laval, I expect it'll be Hughes rather than Dobeš. Hughes has played well, and Dobeš needs to continue getting lots of starts in Laval.

56 AHL games seems a little light in terms of NHL-prep

Sunday Georges Laraque claimed to have big news about the habs ... today:

I think Gallant has been a very successful HC (CBJ didn't work out but over .600 winning percentage his last three jobs) who just doesn't seem to be able to get the team "over the hump" ... but he could be a very good supplement to MSL.

Mmm hmmm. I heard that about Hutson too. And about lots of other players.

Add Demidov to the team we have right now, we would still not be a force to reckon with.

This team is not a Saviour away.

Gallant would be great, but why has it only occurred to them now?

with Demidov and Laine in the top-6, the 3rd line will become more solid and once the expiring contracts are gone (next summer) the D should see an influx to alleviate current lacks

Primeau played like a league average goalie last season and has been better than Montembault so far this season. He's 25 years old and has played a grand total of 50 NHL games.

We should give up on him, put him on waivers, and call up a 21 year old with one full AHL season, rushing, instead of developing Dobes?

This plan makes zero sense.

A lot of Hail Mary ideas flying around the fanbase. Understandably.

For my two cents, goaltending has not been our main problem. Look at Monty on Saturday - played great but was a victim of ridiculous breakdown/chances that only Hasek could have stopped.
