I stand corrected, it looks like we have another solid line tonight

The defence is of greater interest:

Hutson-Savard
Xhekaj-Barron
Engstrom-Mailloux

In addition to Newhook - Dach - Laine?

Barré-Boulet / Kapanen / Heineman?

It sure does feel like that Hutson Savard combo is foreshadow. Xhekaj and Barron are the likely third pairing and poor Struble will be #7

That Roy, Dvorak, Anderson is a decent third line for the season if Anderson plays like himself.

Kapenen is interesting for sure and I’m curious how NHL ready he looks - although I don’t think there is a roster spot for him.

He'll need to outplay either Evans or Dvorak to claim a spot, assuming no trades happen before the start of the season. Not an easy task for a rookie, though certainly not impossible.

So Roy and Dvorak play as a duo

Kapanen is one prospect who is certainly helping his cause tonight.  A lot of smart, subtle plays that the coaches will like.

If he were to make the roster (still far from a sure thing), who do you think would end up on the outside looking in? Dvorak? Evans? Roy?

He also is in early or mid season form, unlike the others.

Can Struble/Engstrom play the right side, or will it likely be Barron/Mailloux/Savard on the right to start.

Isnt #91 reserved for Demidov?

Nice to hear Mailloux had a good game

10) The best player not mentioned anywhere else in this write-up was without a doubt Logan Mailloux. He used his frame to protect the puck, made smart passes and strong defensive plays all night long.

Going to the game tonight.  Sucks that Hutson is not playing, but I get to see Reinbacher, Mailloux, Beck and Mesar (on top of the 1st line).

Looking forward to see if Florian has what it takes to someday make it to the big league.

Could be none of the above.  If they go 14-7-2 to start the season, there's room for an extra forward.  Then he's battling with someone like Barre-Boulet.  That gets him on the roster; in the lineup is a different question.

Moving a centre out at this time of year might not be the most ideal, nor would they probably want to lose that insurance based on what could be a few good preseason games.  If they see it that way, it might be Roy who loses the spot by default due to his waiver exemption once Harvey-Pinard comes back.

Another game for Mailloux is interesting…Is it possible that Hutson and Mailloux make the team?

A lot of people think they'll carry 8 D to start the season.  If they do, it's definitely possible both of them are within that 8.

If Guhle is out to start season, both Hutson and Mailloux will surely dress Oct 5th?

And seems the forward group is kinda set already. Till clean house next spring/summer.

As with most of the good prospects, being the extra forward is probably the worst scenario as there is little opportunity for development. Now, if it means that Dvorak ends up in the press box most of the time--or they rotate Dvorak, Evans and Kapanen in the 3C/4C spots--that may be OK ...

I've said that Kapanen and Beck are very close in potential in the past.

That said, I think we are seeing that Kapanen is currently more developed and closer to NHL ready (that doesn't mean he'll make it, but the first game was encouraging).  Given he's a year older, has played pro hockey against men in Finland, and Beck hasn't had any full time pro experience, that's not a knock on Beck, its just a reality that he may need AHL time while Kapanen pushes for an NHL spot.
