MSL shook up the lines today in practice. Moved Dach back to C but, on the 4th line?

CC Suzy Newhook

Heiny Evans Roy

Gally Dvorak Andy

SLAV DACH Armia

I support this.

Slafkofsky and Dach don’t look hungry or desperate for a roster spot.

Let them fight for playing time

Any of lines 2-4 could play the second most minutes depending on how they play.   I'm not sure there is a 2-4.

I’m with Friedman. Get a top 3 pick. Rid yourself of more Bergevin pieces. Build the foundation more.

I don’t care what MSL does with the lines. I hope he benches any player that can’t get as emotionally involved as Brady Tkachuk.

Yes, good idea. If we get rid of Caulfield, Suzuki, Guhle etc  then we have a great chance at a #3 pick.

OBVIOUSLY that is what Butterface is suggesting.

I have no idea what Friedman was suggesting, my response was to what Butterface was suggesting, Maybe he/she should have been more specific?

Point taken ... corrected in the original post ... but don't think Butterface was suggesting a "true tank" (i.e., stripping the team of its' best players) to get the high pick ... I believe both were just suggesting not making moves to "save the season".

Perhaps, not sure was Butterface was suggesting but you might be right. I don't think we make panic moves to "save the season" either if that is what they were suggesting. Getting Laine back might provide a boost although it will likely take him a while to round into form.

No. All we have to do is trade out Savard Armia Dvorak and make a decision on Evans. Then just play Primeau and Montembeault as needed. We aren’t making the playoffs, so play the rookies, let the goalies eat rubber and see where the chips fall.

Heck, all we have to do is play Primeau more and we have an escalator to the basement. I feel bad for him. I hope he turns it around. We have to play him and hope he improves otherwise he will not be a trade chip. Next year it will be Montembeault with Dobes. Minors will be Fowler with Hughes or maybe Hughes will get signed elsewhere if he continues like he’s been.

This is career time for Primeau. He needs his next 5 starts to excel to right the ship.

Next year we will have just as many bumps in the road as we continue to play rookies. Demidov, Beck, Mailloux, Dobes, Kapanen (Hagens, Martone, Misa?.)…. Some Fowler, Tuch, Reinbacher, Engstrom and possibly Hage, but I am not sure we’d want more rookies in the line up and another NCAA year might be better for him.

So just prepare yourselves. Next year isn’t a guaranteed playoff spot.

The issue with tanking 3 seasons into the rebuild is there would be jobs lost.  I don't think playoffs are a realistic expectation, but I also don't believe being a favorite for the 1st overall pick is an acceptable outcome either.  I've said myself before if you're not making the playoffs you try to finish as low as possible, but 3 seasons into the rebuild there has to be signs of improvement not regression.

That being said, I agree with @Habs Fan in Edmonton about Laine.  Montreal did trade Harris to improve offensively, but up to this point it's been effectively getting weaker on defense for no gain, due to the injury.

Yup. Permanent rebuild is not an option. I’m not accusing anyone on this board, but I honestly think that there are some fans who, deep down, want that. They love that eternally receding horizon of ‘three years from now’ when the team will be a powerhouse. It’s so much easier on the nerves than actually having to invest emotionally in a flawed team of imperfect players (which is what all teams are, including first-tier contenders).
