Habs Fan in Edmonton Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I like this trade too. Have watched Carrier ever since his name was brought up as a possible trade candidate. A smaller defensemen but very mobile and plays with a lot of heart. Will stabilize things on the right side while Mailloux/Reinbacher develop. Maybe Guhle can go back to the left side. Also makes it easier to trade Savard should they get a decent offer at the deadline. Barron wasn't going anywhere here. 1 Quote

Commandant Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 Trade is a big win. Much better analytics in a much tougher role for Carrier. Quote
The Chicoutimi Cucumber Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Yup. Me like. Nothing against Barron, but I do not believe in him as a player, and we get a legit NHL RD in return (and a francophone to boot). We needed some sort of competence on RD - something I’ve been on about all season - and, as Edmonton notes, this makes it easier to move Savard. Good move HuGo 👍 Quote
Commandant Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 Barron just didnt fit. Mattheson and Hutson mean no PP time now Even when Mattheson leaves, Mailloux will pass Barron for PP time. Hes a defensive liability who wasnt gonna ever get PP time in Montreal. 1 Quote

Habs Fan in Edmonton Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Agreed Barron just didn't fit. Maybe he will do well in Nashville, could be a trade that's a win-win for both teams. Habs need a little stability on the right side as mentioned. Quote

And if Nashville is going to go into a rebuild, they need to get younger--and Barron is that. Quote

BCHabnut Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Geez. This really feels like a good trade to me. I've watched him play a bit, but not much. But really any right handed nhler is better than Barron right now. Quote
sbhatt Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Happy to see this. Barron was a defensive liability. Quote
Dalhabs Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I was thinking about how a trade for a veteran RD would be the way to go before going to sleep but was thinking it would be to expensive. Happy I was wrong. Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Don’t know anything about this guy but I like that we traded a player with no future here straight up for a guy that might fit in perfectly. Seems like an outstanding trade on paper. Struble going to be sitting a lot more Quote

DON Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Habs Acquire Alexandre Carrier from Nashville – HabsWorld.net "Carrier’s addition now ensures that they’ll have one proven piece on the right for a couple more years while Logan Mailloux and David Reinbacher continue their development." Justin Barron traded to the Nashville for Alexandre Carrier "Montreal wanted more defensive ability on the back end, Nashville desperately needs an injection of offence, and each club feels it’s addressed its main issue with this move." Habulator Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I think we are a better team today than we were yesterday. That is not to say that we won the trade by a large margin. Carriere is what he is - I believe that JB still is a young man with a lot of potential and I believe there is a chance that in the end we might look back and say he was the better player. Time will tell, I guess. Barron has to be able to play and gain confidence - I'd thought that his play had picked up just a bit over the last few games - maybe it will work out to be a win/win for both teams! Best of luck to Justin Barron! Quote
The Chicoutimi Cucumber Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 It’s possible that Barron will be a late bloomer. Big guys tend to take longer. We should remember that we were hamstrung, not merely by the point that Commandant has made about Mailloux, Hutson, and Matheson crowding him out of the PP time he needs in order to show his best attributes, but by the fact that he was waiver eligible. He really should have been marinading further in the minors. But we couldn’t make that happen without losing him on waivers. So instead, we’ve flipped him for a solid piece that helps us in the short-to-medium term. Seems like a very solid bit of GMing to me. 1 Quote
